Hi All,

Based upon the feedback I have been receiving of late, I have decided to start putting feelers out on this project to see if it is feasible? Part of those considerations is one of what media to use for the conversion kit, and it looks like most modellers are happy with a vacform and resin mix on grounds of both weight and costs.

I have made contact and started a dialogue with an indutrial company that specialises in vacform, white metal and resin casting in order to discuse the idea of the vacform parts and obtain some costings - I need to know before I cut any plastic as once started, I am committed!

To this end, I have produced some very quick and basic diagrams to illustrate off the top of my head how I think this thing is going to go (things may change - this is just the first bite of the cherry - I think that the drawings are pretty self explanitory):

Although I will pass on the F-4K/M conversion, I am eagerly awaiting the Wild Weasel and bits for the D model. But in saying that, I think your plan is looking good Derek.Seams it will be a fairly straight forward conversion and shouldn't be all that difficult. I say go for it ! Just my 2 cents......Harv

Go for it! Just a quick point, hope you make the exhausts open, eg; http://www.fotolibra...4p-raf-stanley/ save work on masters, and no doubt you'll get more mileage out of the moulds, and I think they look better.

Thanks Harv. There will obviously be an awful lot more to the conversion kit than you see here - these drawings just show my initial intentions as to how to tackle the main bits of the conversion.

Cheers

Good point Andy?:hmmm:

I think that I need to know if the after burner petals were normally opend or closed when the aircraft was at rest between sorties? (knowing how they work, it will also affect the amount of exhaust shroud that you see sticking out of the back of the fuselage - so it is important that I find out before I start to tackle this area?).

Thanks

I've been having a look online, but they all seem to be in shadow http://www.thephanto...r2ariat2003.jpg also for those who like their flaps up and down! I have some pics of the engine, open, I took when I visited Hendon in January, will upload them onto my computer and send them your way...

Thanks Andy :speak_cool:

Looks like the Jury is still out on this one then? (I hadn't thought about the flaps either?).

Well I'm going to see how this is going to tun out I like the idea a lot,and since you know the subject well it's no doubt going to be awesome :speak_cool: , but I have doubts on the rear end mate  .

Vac form plastic and then all that resin that needs to align, you can't use the attachment point any more Tamiya provides because you're going to replace all of that with the Vac part so I'm curious to see how you plan on taking that.

just thinking out loud here

Cheers Fred

Derek,

I like your idea and it looks like a very good compromise between vac and resin.

Thanks Fred :D

I haven't figured out the engineering side in detail yet, but don't worry, all if the internal structure will be supported (these have a way of growing organically with me!).

Cheers
