I will occasionally post progress of my 1/32 T-45 conversion set for the Revell Hawk T.Mk.1 kit, although I have currently nothing to show at this moment in time (here is a nice T-45 picture instead to wet your appetite!:)).

Posted Image

I have (partially) assembled both left and right intake trunking pieces, and I have come to the conclusion that they are inaccurate, so I may have a go at making some seamless 'drop fit' items for this conversion set (should work for any other Hawk variant as well).

I have cut away the lower forward fuselage, so I now have to shim it all back up again to it's original pre-cut thickness and dimensions, then I will work out exactly where to modify and alter it to match the T-45 deeper fuselage (more or less how the real thing was modified!).

Peter/Maru5137/Loic: Thank you gents :D

Roy: No decision on markings yet at this stage. I think that if Revell made the T-45, they would pretty well need an entirely new moulding throughout.

When Revell released their Hawk, I thought "If only they released a T-45 instead..."

With your conversion in the works, I will be buying a Hawk kit to use your conversion on! :clap2:

Thanks Brian! Those are some awesome pictures! I'll have to get one of these, and do the Centennial one from the USS Wasp back in the day, with the black tail and nose. Such a cool scheme!

Ads/Matt/Frank - Thank you guys :speak_cool:

I'm glad that you put some more T-45 pictures up (thanks) - there certainly are plenty of colour schemes :D

Whilst I was waiting for some glued partts to dry on my Spitfire bomb carrier master pattern, I tinkered around with the Hawk kit a little:

After gluing the kit fuselage halves together, I drew an horozontal line of the forward fuselage, from the intake splitter plate to the nose, 4mm above - and parallel to - the scribed lower longeron panel line on the kit. This area I removed as a complete assembly. It is this removed fuselage part that I shall modify into an T-45 lower fuselage master pattern.

I will also be cutting out the airbrake area and making a blanking panel here - this also where the arrester hook will also be located eventually.

Posted Image

The fin tip will also be removed and a new taller version made.

Posted Image

I have spent some time looking at the intakes, and have concluded that they are too long! (by somewhere between 21mm and 26mm too far back - the engine compresser fan is located at approximately mid-engine position, where the combustion chamber should be!). I will soon ascertain exactly where it should be. The other issue with these intakes is the shape and position of the edge of the vee created when the two halves of trunking are glued together - it is too far forward (just) and the wrong shape. It should form a straight vertical knife edge, not follow a curve as moulded. The pencil linesin the photographs below show the various positionings for the splitter knife edge (forward most line that crosses both intake trunkings) and the two aft marks which indicate the correct positioning for the engine compresser fan (to be confirmed soon). I shall be re-working these and developing them into an seamless AM intake set for the Hawk kit, as well as the T-45 conversion.

In comparison, the jet pipe is about correct in length and turbine position! - go figure?
