I have been getting slightly nagged by a few peeps here to do an RFI thread on this build so I've finally managed to get some decent pics
so here goes.

Original build thread here: http://forum.largesc...showtopic=35854

If you did not see the original effort then briefly my best buddy here sent a Has Spitfire VI to my daughter for her 6th birthday back in January.
Kind of a nice thing for us to build together.
Bit of fun and no pressure on accuracy and a really wild scheme.

We decided on a rough idea for the colours and markings together with a name "Dark Star".
Ian at Ad Astra interpreted our wild ramblings into a really cool scheme.
It was painted with various shades of Alclad then negative masked, i.e masks were put on the Alclad colours, top colours painted over and the masks removed
to show the variouys colours coming through.

Having finally made a stand for it, it now has pride of place on her dressing table.

Fabulous build Phil. Sam is sure to love this for years.

The scheme is really really nice. The finish looks very bling...in particular the spinner. Man you nail those metallic finishes so well you'd swear it was a turned from a billet. Super job.

Cheers Matty
Scheme of manoeuvre: I say we take off and nuke it from orbit. Only way to be sure.

:yahoo:
Yay, looks very sharp ... and cute ;)
I agree, the finish on the spinner and exhaust is superb :clap2: :clap2:
The scheme even though fictional seems very thought through. I can't stop myself trying some interpretations: crossing the barrier between day and night, entering adolescence ... errr.. a bit far fetched. Let's stop here.
Anyway, great job, and thanks for posting final pictures!

My wife NEVER comments on builds, she's indifferent to the masses of aircraft she's seen me build over the years.

She just walked by the computer and saw me looking at these pics and said "holy cow! that's a really good looking build!"

So hats off to you, you got a thumbs up from the boss which never happens!

Supercalafragalistic man!

Hope Sam keeps it for a LONG time. A significantly better outcome from this 80's gen kit than given away to one of the lil buggers that go to our local club meets; which is what likely would have happened; and gotten build to no where NEAR this standard. This way, it got built, and build WELL now with a cool father/daughter connection that wont disappear.

Good show, and hope Sam keeps it for a good long while!

B

That is a stunning bird and makes me want to do a wif air racer now. The inclusion of the modern pilot really sets it off. Gorgeous.
