Now that I have a bomb to use as reference (courtesy of MDC - thanks Bob), I can now continue with the lower part. The bomb is the excellent little MDC 1/32 M.C 500lb G.P. Mk.III bomb, which was used by both Mk.V and Mk.IX Spitfires. For some unknown reason, the tail cone ring was a little short in circumference once it was correctly shaped to go sround the vanes, so I made a new slightly larger diameter version from 0.25mm polystyrene sheet. I also made a transportation ring for the nose of the bomb The majority of 500lb bombs carried by Spitfires were short tailed (and, in the main, tail fused), but the Mk.IXe Spitfires also used the later M.C. 500lb G.P. Mk.IV bombs which were nose fused as well.

The next part is making the bomb carrier sway crutches - probably the most difficult part of this pattern (I have to make four identical parts). So, for now, I have loosely assembly what I have just to give you some idea of how it all looks so far...

That orange craft knife brings back memories - of slicing a finger open with one similar! Nice work on the bomb.

...Funny that you should mention that Andy?... :crying:(Ouch! as ET would say - guess who is now sporting a very sore finger...and why does it always happen just after you have inserted a new blade into the knife handle?:angry2:).

Thanks for the compliment.
