After sanding the wing centre section down to the correct taper, but I took a little too much off the middle. This neccessitated me gluing another sheet of balsa onto the bottom of the wing (as seen in the picture below, drying), which I had to piece together from several pieces, as I didn't have enough to complete the wing. I shall re-sand it to the correct taper again once it is all dry.

Looking GREAT, Derek! Following with interest on this styrene/over balsa building technique. It's so neat when 20 modellers will scratch-build a subject,...and do it 20 different ways, and still have a great result! Innovation, using what tools and materials are available, different reference sources, ect. sure make for some exciting modelling!
Being somewhat of a 'aircraft plan junky', I couldn't help but notice what sweet plans you've got. All the profiles, cross-sections, and stuff are right there. VERY nice. The logo looks to be WA and a seagull? Is there a link/info to more of these plans and subjects? Would sure like to check out what else is available for purchase.
Happy to see you're making a go of this build  , as I know this is one of your favorites and you've been wanting to build this since I signed on to this forum. This is going to be a show-stopper for sure, not only for it's uniqueness and size...it's just so darn cool! (also make a great 'signature build' for your new product lines too, eh?! <_< )
Can't wait to see more progress shots. It's always a hoot to follow along with your builds, whoohoo! Russ

Thanks Russ. I shall be working on this project as and when time allows, but all progress made shall be shown on this forum. The Welkin plans are 1/72 scale drawings (enlarged to 1/32) from the 4+ book series. There is not a great deal of technical information available on this aircraft, but this book goes a long way to filling the gaps.

Hi mschoo,

Those are a few of my Space Marine (it hold some partially completed tanks and Marines) and Necron boxes (containing a Monolith). I also have some Deamon Hunters (Grey Knights - I rate Vindicare assins very highly! <_<).

Hello all,

After giving it much thought and long deliberation, I have choosen an aircraft build subject that would be worthy of Russ, and one that I think he would have very much approved of. Therefore, I could not come up with anything more fitting than a high flying aircraft for our own recently departed high flying member and friend - A scratch built 1/32 scale Westland Welkin F.1 fighter.

The first two parts of this project can be traced back to here and here (I would be grateful if the Mods could possibly combine these two threads into this on please?).

I am aware of the generous end date set for this GB by the mods, but to me, that is not important - what is is that I carry his memory through with this build and I do the best I can to make it into something that he would have been justly proud of had he actually made it himself...I hope that I can pull it off with the humour and humility that were such hallmarks of Russ himself (I hope that he his staying tuned up there in his own unique way).

For you my friend

I'm so glad you could make this one Derek, and I really hope you get the chance to finish it. Great subject too!

(I would be grateful if the Mods could possibly combine these two threads into this on please?).

We can, but be aware that the forum will combine them in chronological order, so your first post will no longer be the first post in this thread. If you don't mind the logical dissonance this will create when reading this thread, we'll organise it.
