After the Rufe disaster, I decided to shift gears a little bit. My inspiration? :)

First order of business will be to completely scratch build gun bay. I have the long OOP KMC gun bay detail set I'll use, supplemented by Eduard P.E. where appropriate. Gun bay door is a decent enough representation to be used with additional detailing/embellishment I think.

What are the odds?.............

Two LSP'ers in the St Louis area building the same kit at the same time.

Who'da thunk it? Oh well, guess I'll shelve mine for now cause it won't be as good as this one. <sigh>

Jeff
I've been doing so much with so little for so long I am now qualified to make anything out of nothing.

You’re giving me way too much credit. :( Is it fair to assume you’ll be at the invitational Saturday?

I have both, but I’ll be using the Hasegawa kit. Revell kit would certainly scribe easier, but KMC pit was designed for Hasegawa and may not fit too well in Revell kit; the jury is still out on that one. I personally hope you stay a member for a long time, as I intend to consult you heavily regarding some Hellenic subjects in the future. Now, if someone would just release a 1/32 Mirage 2000! ;)

Regards,

Kevin

One area that is needing some attention on either kit is the inlet cones, and bypass duct. This photo depicts part as supplied by Hasegawa.

This photo is of doctored up cone area to more accurately reflect actual configuration. Cone was cut off, shaped and reattached with plastic shims used to replace material removed by saw kerf. Now area inside bypass duct can be clearly seen. I’ll sand and smooth once cured.

Kit doesn’t provide chute for 20mm gun, opting instead to depict with canvas cover installed. No problem however; I’ve got adequate reference to scratch build one. :(

Just received the Starfighter wheels; they’re really quite nice. May or may not be the correct style, but I don’t really worry about such things. Let the nervous, sweaty, obsessive/compulsive types do that instead; and I’m sure they will!

I have always liked the look of four tanks on the Starfighter, so I have liberated the tip tanks and wing pylons from the Revell kit (with the funky Canadian markings), to use on this model. With the exception of the Revell tank fins, it should be relatively straightforward I think. More on this later. Not making much progress on this yet, but next week should see some new work being performed.
