Just used this to do a final finish on a model and it came out great. I've had a couple of projects laying around that were done up to the final coat of Future but didn't know how to proceed from there. The only options from the LHS were Testors Dullcoat in a rattle can or Model Master Acryl flat clear in a bottle. I used Dullcoat years ago and didn't like it. The cans never seemed to have enough pressure so the spray would be uneven and it wouldn't level out. Have also heard that the stuff yellows with age. Testing the MM Acryl showed that it dries milky and would take a long airbrushing session on a large model (1/18th scale) anyway which didn't appeal to me.
Was in Walmart last week and came across the Krylon Matte Finish. It was less than $4 for an 11 oz can so I decided to try it. Tested it first on a restored FW-190A and it worked perfectly. One light coat took the gloss off and did no harm to the decals or paint, which was a combination of enamels and Poly S acrylics. Moved on to the big Me-262 that had several coats of Future on it. The first spray brought out some fisheye issues in a couple of places. Must have been from handling the plane and not cleaning it well enough. A couple more light spot coats took care of that. It blended right to in the previous coats beautifully. Again, the spray had no effect on the Future or decals. I'm always looking for easier ways to do things and this stuff fits the bill. I recommend it highly. |
