Looking GOOD Matt!, Can't wait to see more progress pics. That's an awesomely nice cockpit! I've never had this kit, and I'm really interested in how it builds up.
Wasn't Swede Vejtasa on Yorktown? I've got a book 'That Gallant Ship, USS Yorktown' that chronicles all the air groups, and has some nice 'deck shots' of SBD-3's of VS-5 from pre-war thru Midway. If you need, PM me with address and I'll scan/send what I've got.
Reallly like what you've done so far, can't wait to see it progress! Later, Russ

Hey Rocky,
I did find the sheets that Charles has mentioned. Unfortunately they were released through Meteor Productions and I cannot find their new distributor. Meteor had some really good sheets that I got for my Trump Hun and my unbuilt Trump Thud.

Charles, thanks for the url, I will have to check it out. Those sheets looked great but just couldn't find them. The Yellow Wings decals are really nice though. Now I just have to settle on whose plane...

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

Matt

Still working on the cockpit but decided to jump ahead and get to work on the engine. There are a LOT of pieces to the kit engine. You pretty much just have to add some ignition wires. They even gave me nice holes for spark plugs(front only).

and the back is nice too. Unfortunately, I don't think any of this will show.

Love that engine Matt. You seem to have captured the burnt metal look of the exhaust ring beautifully. Very convincing.

Looking terrific, Matt!!!! You got 'the look' down cold. Sweet! Patience on the pics I've got scanned for ya, I'm having trouble remembering to take my flash stick to work and getting them home. Doh, the perils of growing old!

No worries Russ! Take your time. It's gonna be awhile until I get to the exterior. I need to find some way to make "16's" either with decals or frisket for the plane I want to do anyway.

Excellent work! Cockpit is coming along very nicely, and that engine looks ready to fire up. Beautiful job.

Work continues on this mess. Now I remember why I build German planes, interior green is my nemesis.
The kit cockpit is amazingly detailed. All I did was add some styrene and wire to suggest plumbing etc. Otherwise by the time I get this together, I would wonder where the crew sat.

Posted Image

Interestingly, Trumpeter installed two rear control sticks so I just cut one off. All fixed.
I don't know exactly when the SBD got shoulder harnesses so I went without. I guess I could come up with something later if need be.

Posted Image

Now it's on to the fuselage sidewalls and the clutter there.

Thanks again for the great comments!
