I decided to take this kit off the shelf and give it a whirl.

It's one of the Gamilas space carriers seen in the recent SBY 2199 series. Bandai has a series of kits of various capital ships and fighters from the series in box scale. They're all about 3" in length when completed so there is no constant scale to them but they are a fun and quick build. Here's the parts overview:

I guess space is the only place you can pull of having a purple carrier.

I started by painting the flight decks light grey. I then masked this off for the deck markings with 0.4 and 0.7mm masking tape.

Then I sprayed dark grey for the deck colour. I figured this was easier then trying to mask off the stripes after painting the flight deck.

With the tape removed:

The ceilings and inner walls of the handed were painted in sky grey. I then started fitting the turrets and various antennas to the fuselage sides. These were then painted purple.

I have the parts a quick wash to pick out some of the details and then started assembling everything.

The three lower fight decks and lower hull:

I forgot to paying the front edge of the flight decks purple so I did that next.

With the lower fight deck and hull in place:

With the upper deck in place:

Then it was time for the hull sides:

Lastly, it was time to mount it on the stand and she was finished.

That's it. All told I think it was maybe 3 hours at the workbench.
