dmthamade
The engine/prop work is great!! I really like the subtle weathering on the prop, look forward to seeing the rest of the build. Don spyrosjzmichos

spyrosjzmichos
Spyros, I'm really impressed with the detail painting and ignition wiring. And the prop with the yellow hub really helps to add a little color to it. is that the Baracuda Ignition ring? It sure looks sweet. I have both the Birdcage and the -1A in my stash, and if it's an AM part, I need to order a few. Joel Thank you Joel! Yup, the ignition ring is from Barracuda. It's quite easy to fit although I still had trouble putting through all the ignition wires. I kinda gave up after doing the front cylinders. The propeller colours were actually the reason I chose this paint scheme!

spyrosjzmichos
Hi guys! I'm finally back to the model after a nice, long holiday. In the previous update the airframe was mostly complete including the engine. The outer part of the wings was then assembled and added to rest of the model. A bit of liquid putty was used to close some small gaps. Now, I can never have a proper build without a bit of a FUBAR. First the wings, now the decal choice. I had chosen to do a version of the Corsair which had a yellow propeller hub as well as a small yellow rear section. Then I found out that the paint scheme was for an F4U-1A and not a Birdcage. So, after a few choice words to myself I decided to go back to one of the original Tamiya decal options. Now, the fun part begins. The model had the cockpit area, engine and wheel wells masked off in preparation for painting. First a coat of primer followed by preshading with black and white. Hopefully, this will give some nice variation when the camo is sprayed on. Smaller parts will be painted separately to avoid damaging them when handling the model. Next update will be after the basic camo is done. Thanks for checking! Gazzas, Shaka HI, Bill Cross and 3 others
Joel_W
Spyros, Nice to see that the primer stage has been completed. Looking forward to seeing how the color coats work with your tri-colored base coat. It should yield a really nicely faded and worn look especially with the white added for more variation. Shaka HI
Curious how this will work out. I have no issue with pre-shading and yours seem "simple" enough. I've seen some super elaborate pre-shading (and black-basing) in other builds that I don't even want to contemplate! spyrosjzmichos

I expect the preshading to show up under the lighter colours mainly. So should get some good variation on the lower sides and the light blue. spyrosjzmichos
Hi all! I finally managed to put some proper camo colours on this bird! For this job I used Hataka's acrylics from their Late US Navy paint set (red series). Before applying any colour I first painted the wing routes with yellow and added random blotches of liquid maskol to later create chipping. Not really happy with the result so will be reworking them together with metal chipping, too. With the initial camo done I then faded it by mixing the basic colours with white and black and randomly spraying all over the airframe. I think the dark blue will need further work where it meets the light blue areas. I plan to spray some separate wing panels with a solid layer of dark blue to create more variation while the fabric portions will be sprayed with a lighter version based on reference pics. With all that complete I will then move on to applying the decals. Any feedback and ideas on how to further improve on this would be much appreciated! Thanks for checking!
