otis252
Hey guys, finally got my hands on a Revell Hunter FGA.9 kit and it looks very nice. However I've got some questions. What after market, specifically in the cockpit is available? To build a late Hunter, what MB seat is used? any help would be appreciated, many thanks. Smeds
If you can find one, True Details do a resin cockpit. otis252 and LSP_K2
MikeC
Hannants have some. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TD32453 I'm just making a start on an F6 using one of these, and it certainly looks good, but I've not checked the fit yet. Master do a pitot probe https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MR32035 and there's some Flightpath etch https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/FHP32003, but I don't think you'd want that and the TD set. As for the seat, I think a MB Mk 3 or 4 would probably be appropriate. http://martin-baker.com/products The True details seat appears to be a Mk 2, which (correct me if I'm wrong) was on earlier Hunters. Now get building, and let's see the WIP Edited April 14, 2018 by MikeC LSP_K2 and otis252
Chek
For some reason which escapes me at the moment, Hunter F1s had MB Type 2H seats, then up to F6s had MB Type 3H seats, but were later retro-fitted with Type 2H seats. The principal difference being the earlier Type 2H seat had the high thigh guards which protected a pilot's legs better. Hunter T7 trainers had the Type 4H seat. None of them were zero-zero seats. Kagemusha
HAD produce a set of resin wheels, pretty certain G-Factor brass undercarriage.
mattlow
I have just resurrected an old build of this kit. It's a conversion to a Suez F5 (the popular WP130) from the F6 kit. My observation which may be helpful, is to re-enforce the main fuselage seams (plastic tabs maybe). This isn't for fit purposes (the kit fits very well) but rather to prevent flex and opening up of those seams. Time and careful 'fettling' of the wing to fuselage join, especially at the intake end, will pay dividends in avoided filling and sanding. True details 'pit is nice and certainly used to be surprisingly cheap. That said, the Revell 'pit is pretty good and needs only a little work to make it look good - they get the side consoles right (not running to rear wall of 'pit) something others got wrong, including Airfix's CAD for their new 1/48th kit... It's a nice kit, that seems to be rather under-rated. Matt otis252 and MikeC
Hubert Boillot
HAD produce a set of resin wheels, pretty certain G-Factor brass undercarriage. Yes for G-Factor. There is also a huge PE fret from Flightpath. The metal however (that looks like nickel-silver alloy) is very stiff and does not react to annealing well, or at all for that matter. Getting compound curves (like for the airbrake) was impossible for me. As for the flaps, the set is oustanding, if fiddly, but then the flaps are not supposed to be down on the ground (or only after a significant hydraulic pressure bleed) A vey nice kit, as others have said. Tony T
Agree with Mattlow: put tabs of plasticard along the inside of the rear fuselage for added strength. You can best do this after the main fuselage is joined, before the nose and tail assemblies are fitted. There were three editions. The original FGA.9 has the incorrectly tapered ailerons. The F.6 release fixed that and added more detail to the rear cockpit bulkhead, and had the non-clipped flaps and tail parts without the braking chute pack. The second FGA.9 release - the not so long ago one - has the corrected ailerons and more detailed rear cockpit bulkhead of the F.6 (but the flaps with the cut-out and rear empennage with the brake chute bulge of the '9, as to be expected).
