WOW .. A Staggerwing. will be following with great interest.

Brian - the real deal or the kit? I've seen quite a few Staggerwings over the years and they are one of the most beautiful airplanes I've ever seen. Coupled with a  Big Radial and it's pure music to my ears.

Really like that you are pursuing this build and not putting this collectible kit on eBay.i built the Staggerwings unlmtd kit a few years ago which is a repop of the old ITC kit. Popular opinion has it that your Scratchbuilders kit molds are based on the ITC kit with the addition of other parts and amore accurate placement of landing gear. This will be a special build!

Dave,

Yeah there wil be gaps to fil especially at the curved lower wing root and my nemesis where the top wing meets the fuse. No recommendation on filler. Just use what you know. Hubert is right about the engine. You might want to pick up a Williams Bros. Gee Bee Z. It comes with 2 engines the P+ W jr. And sr. And two cowls.

The Beech Model 17 was built in several models using a number of different engines.  The D and G model both had the P&W R-985 engine with nine cylinders.

The first Staggerwing 17 was a fixed gear airplane!

I have a couple of Staggerwing Unlimited kits and the Scratchbuilders (which is a C-17, IIRC) kit.  They are extremely similiar in design and parts configuration.

I built a Staggerwings Unlmtd for my brother's flight school back around 1989.  I scratchbuilt/cobbled together a passable interior and it turned out pretty nice.  Unfortunately, he young boys ended up destroying it. :(
