June-August completions 2: Hasegawa Ki-61-1 Hien

No major problems; a little more seam filling than I'm used to with Hasegawa.  Otherwise a lovely kit.

Homemade masks on all the red and yellow markings; kit decals; Eduard belts; EZ Line; Tamiya, Alclad II and Model Master paints.

(At this point, postimag stopped working, so I guess that's all for today.)

Are the wing letters edged in white or is that silvering? Otherwise it looks outstanding.

Silvering. The letters were originally together in one long decal for each side.  I cut them apart, but I should have tried to trim each letter more tightly.  The silvering surprised me because surface was quite smooth: bare Alclad.

Any suggestions?  I'm thinking of trying to sand them down lightly with a #1200 manicure stick, then polish them with #6000 and re-spray them with semi-gloss clear.  The Alclad would make this a dicey procedure, I'm afraid.

You could try cutting them out with a hobby knife and then GENTLY scraping away the selvage. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news like this on what otherwise is a terrific build. I think you can get this wrestled to the ground, and at worst would have to mask the decals and paint over the selvage with Alclad.

Not a problem. If I were thin skinned about it, I wouldn't have posted the pic's in the first place. ðŸ˜

In the event, I cut them down a bit with the manicure stick, re-sprayed them with clear and weathered them a bit with some "mechanics' smudges" to blend them in. Better, not ideal. Chalk it up to lessons learned.
