Another Spitfire IX takes to the air!

Vintage Wings of Canada performed a test flight of their recently restored Spitfire Mk.IX, in markings of 442 Squadron RCAF. She flew without issues this morning at 9:30am. I now have two Spitfires (and a Mk.XIV crated in storage), a Mustang, two Hurricanes a P-40 and a Swordfish (among other aircraft) within two hours driving distance.

This was the restoration project that was started in Comox, BC.

They told me the Mk. XIV is a basketcase, and is stored safely in a sea container. It would likely be a very long restoration, but look where their Spitfire IX started. That specific Mk. XIV aircraft doesn't have a direct connection to the RCAF or Canadians, but of course we flew Spitfire XIVs of various versions. That would be amazing to hear a Griffon-powered Spit in the air.
