Luca
Someone who helps me to identify these two machines (concerning the LASTE mods)? Many thanks. Guest Airfixer
A-10A, 79-0147 1988/1989 (depicted marking option) -> pre-LASTE configuration. LASTE was launched during the early 1990s. 79-0147 later received the LASTE mods and was eventually upgraded to A-10C standard. A-10C, 79-0138 Post-LASTE configuration. The C-model introduced the so-called Precision Engagement upgrade superseding LASTE. Most prominent feature: Beyond Line-of-Sight SATCOM antenna aft of the GPS dome. IIRC, the GPS started being introduced as from 1999, also representing a post-LASTE feature. It was introduced fleetwide after the A-10C conversion began, so many A-10Cs didn't receive the SATCOM until after they were already a C-model, while many A-10A+s also received the SATCOM prior to becoming an A-10C. Luca
thanks guys. A-10C, 79-0138 Post-LASTE configuration. it's marked as A-10A (not C) in the Tiger Wings sheet (32-117) A-10A, 79-138, 75 FS/23 FW 'Flying Tigers' (FT) - This aircraft sports the newer Compass Ghost paint scheme along with a new tailcode for the unit. The traditional sharkmouth fortunately remained. http://www.internetmodeler.com/2001/may/new-releases/tiger_a-10a.htm http://www.dstorm.eu/pictures/decals/twd32117_1.jpg which year did it receive the LASTE mods? Luca
Speaking of A-10Cs, is there a currently available conversion? I read somewhere there was an AMS resin plus for the cockpit... but I never find that pieces (anyone knows the link to some images?) concerning a ful -C conversion, maybe Harold (AMS) could tell us something more? I'd need one... Edited May 17, 2017 by Luca Harold
Guest Airfixer
[...] which year did it receive the LASTE mods? During Desert Storm (1991)? During Desert Storm, LASTE wasn't fully operational. LASTE came in full swing immediately after ODS. A few sources suggest that none of the 14th Air Division Hogs had the LASTE mods. In 1991, however, a LASTE-modified 175th FG A-10A won the USAF Gunsmoke Competition. A-10A, 79-0138 The picture you posted depicts 79-0138 after it has been converted to C-standard. That's why I had written "Post-LASTE configuration". The 75th Fighter Squadron was reactivated in April 1992, but I can't say whether the squadron received LASTE-modified A-10 in its entirety upon reactivation or whether they were still in the process of converting. Also, I can't tell precisely when 79-0138 received its LASTE mods...either via the speed line at the Sacramento Air Logistics Depot - just like the majority of A-10As - or via one of the unit speed lines. I'm taking a long shot, but the introduction of the Ghost Gray scheme coincides with the reactivation of the 75th Fighter Squadron. If depot-applied, I'd suspect 79-0138 received the LASTE mods and the new paint job in one go. Maybe Jake will be able to shed some more light on that matter. P.S. Just in case... Neither 79-0138 nor 79-0147 were deployed to the Gulf. Edited May 18, 2017 by Airfixer Luca
Harold
I have a "mini" set I did for an LSPer some time ago. It is only for obvious differences in the 'pit plus the antenna. Scroll down.. http://s125.photobucket.com/user/hairoldcut/library/?sort=3&page=35 I have it mocked up on the TD resin 'pit set. It includes the IP, glare shield, joystick grip, and antenna. No full conversion. Edited May 18, 2017 by Harold Luca
Dana Bell
Hi Luca, I can confirm that Peanut was not carrying the LASTE mods. I had some quality time with the aircraft in July 1991, shortly before the aircraft was repainted, and none of the LASTE gear shows in any of my walkaround pix. Cheers, Dana Harold and Luca

Harold
thanks Harold...which additional part would be needed to get a full onversion? cheers I would say at least a new cockpit, the kit itself needs TLC.

Dave Williams
The kit has been out for many years and there have already been a number of detail/correction sets made over the years. It's doubtful at this late date that anyone is going to bother make making corrections to fix all the sins of the 16 year old kit, so we likely have to make do with what's out there. The main issue that I see is that we just got a nice new decal sheet, which includes a number of A-10Cs, and there is no conversion available.
