At last I have a question.
There is a halfring protuding from the right side of the fuselage filled with some rubberlike compound. Seems this is common to all sabres.
Anyone has a hint?

For now that's all. If this topic lives long enough maybe I can get some more information in autum.

well--i have serached high and low and there is only one explination for this item as its not on any other F-86. it must be a "hook" made for either having the Aircraft hanging from a celing on display or to tie it down outside as gateguard or something like that.. its the only thing i can come up with on this item and i have searched every book, picture and almost sabre alive i could find..and i have only seen it on this one..and also spoken with several and they all say the same..it must be a mod for a tiedown, hanging or gateguard..

Hi Junkers JU...,
This item is found on every German Canadairsabre MK 6. It's only on the starboardside and much to weak for a hook. Can it be that it is a pushin ring for whatever reason?
In September I'm back in Berlin Gatow where several Sabres are parked ( think 5 or six). A Mk 5 in the Museum and a Mk6 with Martinbaker seat in the restorationshop. Will try to get some more pics. Maybe there is someone around of the Luftwaffe who knows something.

now i am curious..really corious.. and atleast you gave me a clue. so i will start checking with the canadabuildt sabres. and also speak with a couple that i know that flew the canadian sabre <_< perhaps they know something as this little item has puzzeled me since you posted it
let me know if you find out something..and i will do the same ( and no wonder i couldent find that one any of the sabres i have searched as they are all americanbuildt ) :P

but the canadian build sabres did have a lot of cool little small improvments from the US buildt ( and also more powerful engines .. so lets see what we can come up with :)

I've been intending to post to this thread for quite some time; can't believe it's taken me this long. The attached image speaks for itself I suppose; it has a place of honor in my den. I've been a fan of the F-86 for as long as I can remember. When the time comes to trick out my Kinetic kit, I'll rely on this thread heavily. :)

Thanks Harv; this is a signed original. Signatures include Gabe Gabreski, and four other aces. Purchased from Historic Aviation about ten years ago; I love it too. :coolio:

Much to my surprise, it appears to still be available. Pretty much the same price too. Just went and had another look at mine; one of the signatures (in pencil). is by the artist himself, so there are actually only the four pilot signatures (including Gabreski), and all four were Sabre aces.
