fam43
Hi,My wife simply ordered all Alclad colors had to go because of their special ordor. Well I depulluted them in accordence with the law. Now I wanted to test acrylic metal colors from Revell and looked for a simple to build kit. There was a F-80 from Monogram which rested in my basement for decades. No waste if it will go the wrong way. Engraving or not engraving that was the question. Well I decideed to engrave the old chap. The cockpit is already finished in advance. Some minor thickening had to be done on the left ammo cover because I wanted it closed. There were some problems with the fitting of parts.first the gun panel was too thin when I closed it. I bolstered it up with some sheet. Edited July 3, 2015 by fam43 Harold
Out2gtcha
I was surprised to find that the new line of "X-treme Metal" colors from AK Interactive were not lacquer, but enamel. Im not sure if your better half would be more acceptable of the smell of enamel, but I have to admit, after only using one of the colors (Duraluminum) I was QUITE pleasantly surprised to find they really do not have much of a smell to them at all. In fact, even though I have a paint booth to shoot in, I found them to not have even as much odor as normal enamels. Harold
LSP_K2
Can't go wrong with the old Monogram F-80, a basically sound kit even if it is dated. Harold
LSP_Kevin
I can vouch for the fact that, while spraying, the Xtreme Metal paints have very little odour at all. They're pretty ordinary if you sniff the open bottle, but you can hardly smell them at all while airbrushing (with an extractor running, that is - but I use one for all my airbrushing, and this is the only non-acrylic paint where I can say I don't still smell it). fam43
Well I will descard all my enamal colors and want to go completely to acrylics. Other problems show up. At last ta step showed up between front- and after fuselage. Maybe I goofed and caused it myself. Don't know. Edited July 3, 2015 by fam43
fam43
Rescribed and ready to be painted with an aqua filler. I only used Revell Aluminum changing the hue by adding drops of red black or blue.Because I didn't use a flash the following pics have a goldish shine. fam43
a try with a flashlight for better colors. As you can see it's no problem to apply tape on the Revell color. It will remove wiithout peeling the silver paint. Some more pics: I like the hue of the Revell color avoiding the polished crome look of special metal colors. fam43
Now the decals. They show their age. Some fading has happened. But they will do for this color test. Harold, EmperorKai and Out2gtcha

fam43
Finishing touches to the kit: The F-80 got her own small runway. Nose was too light so I cemented it on it. I like this Revell colors very much. Masking is very easy. There was no peel off. Harold
