To keep the number of short-run kits started in my workshop above 0, I have decided to launch another one.
The biggest challenge here is to find out, what actually is the kit's detail, what just the flash or misalignment of forms...

when I saw this on a sale in one of the hobby shops in US, just couldn't resist. So, my next victim will be the Gee Bee R Racer, made by Williams Brothers Model Products, 1:32nd scale - the only suitable for this little machine.

The box...

... and its content:

The works have been started, cleaned the fuselage inside, opened the doors - going to show some details inside.

The worst is the windshield/canopy, made of 3 mm thick plastic... have to do something about it.
Any help and suggestions highly appreciated :).

This will not be a quick project.

Best regards
Hubert

From one Hubert to another Hubert : :speak_cool:

I am about to resurrect my twin build - stalled by life events - of the R-1 and R-2.

http://forum.largesc...showtopic=65259

I found some vac-forms of the canopies on eBay. I think the guy selling them was from Hungary, IIRC

Hubert

PS eBay seller is named el_remete based in Hungary. He has not the vac-formed canopies for the Gee Bee listed ATM, but who knows ?

Would you like me to move it to the CtSoD GB, Hubert?

Only when I am sure it will not be another stationery move, Kev :)

Thanks, Hubert :)

Unfortunately can't find that vacuum formed canopy, will have to do something on my own.

However, decision was made to purchase Vector's resin engine, so will be making this kit as the R1, to show more of it.

Best regards
Hubert

I built this kit 6 months back. My kit was a much older boxing looks as if they have cleaned up the molds. It was definitely not a drop together kit but was still a fun build. I purchased some other WB kits to make a shelf of golden age racers.

[...] I purchased some other WB kits to make a shelf of golden age racers.

That's exactly the same situation as in my case ... Buy one - want more...

Got some other WB and Lindberg kits ordered, all those golden age racers are really cool. And those brave men that have flown them!

In the meantime, started to detail the interior of the Gee Bee R1.

Going to recreate most of the internal fuselage structure, even though only some of it will be visible through the access hatch and the canopy (I hope anything will be visible this way ;)).

Thanks for your comments :)

Stay tuned, best regards

Some progress with the internal structure.

Maybe not 100% accurate according to the plans, maybe could have been done better here and there, but I think it will do the job - there will be something visible, instead of nothing.

Hubert,

I haven't seen this kit for ages. I'll be following along for sure.

Nice start on the interior framing.

Built this and the Wedell-Williams too, a very long time ago. Fascinating aircraft, but I'd have loved to have seen some more racers in the range, Supermarines, Glosters, Macchis etc. Hubert, looks like you are making great progress!

My Father told me two things would happen as I got older.
I can't remember either of them....
