Haha, sweet, I have access!! Alrighty guys, hope this works. If it does...this is Revell's 1/32 Hawker Hunter. I picked it up for $20 at a LHS. I also grabbed True Details resin cockpit and Scale Aircraft Conversions white metal landing gear. Not much done yet, but gotta start somewhere!

The TD set compared to the Revell set...

Nice start! Looks like a boatload of goodies ready to go too. I noticed you didn't thin the fuselage plastic before fitting the resin sidewalls. Does it all just fit without the need to?

I guess I got lucky with it! The pit is actually a hair or two small. It fit right in without much fuss. Wish the 1/48 stuff was as cooperative as this was. The resin sidewalls, believe or not, were too thin. It was a little sketchy sanding them to fit the inside profile of the pit walls. But it all worked out...almost looks like I know what I'm doing

Doug,

Firstly welcome aboard!

I think you will fit right in.

Secondly, a couple of bits of advice. Your work area is far too clean! Dirty it up and get some dust floating around.

You will need at least 3 builds on the go at any one time.

If you take a photo that has your hand in shot, make sure your fingernails are really dirty and add a few scars and cuts to your fingers.

Lastly don't take this modelling thing too seriously. Its a real laugh on this site and we have a lot of fun.

:evil_laugh:

Anyway, I built the Hunter few years ago with exactly the same aftermarket as you : http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=28909

What scheme are you going to do?

I found it to be a really great kit with excellent detail and fit.

Have a look at "Blackbetty's" build over on the "Trip to Russville". He has got some terrific advice on the fit of the intakes and engine face which would have saved me a bit of time

when I built mine.

I would also take the date off your photo's.

That way you can save them up and release them in one large post.

That way we'll think you are building very quickly!!!

Looking forward to seeing more!

Phil

Thanks guys!

Phil,

In my discombobulated world...that is dirty! You should have seen the amount of resin dust I cleaned up before I took the shot...the desk was white!

Technically speaking, I have 3 and a half builds going as of present. The Hunter, a 1/48 Jaguar, a 1/48 Tornado, and the base for a 1/48 Airwolf. I know they aren't 1/32 but do they still count?

As far as the hand in shot prerequisites...that might be tough...I'm a tad OCD. Maybe after an airbrush session that requirement will be filled!

As far as the fun you guys have...I actually almost shot coffee through my nose reading your reply! Same with checking out the site in-depth last night...you guys are a riot!

Awesome Hunter! thanks for the link...I'm thinkin' I'll be calling 'artistic license' as well!

Not sure about the scheme. I'd like to do it up in something besides the standard gray/green camo and no bright colors. Some form of camo, just not sure. Any Ideas where I could find decals and paint scheme's for it?

Yeah, sorry about the date stamp. I was out mushrooming awhile back and forgot to change the setting, my bad. All fixed now.

Now then, off to the cave to hash out my favorite part of building...the cockpit! In 1/32 scale, this should be fun!

Doug,

just had a look at Hannants in the UK and they do a couple of decal sets but they are all the grey/green camo scheme apart from the red and white trainer which I did

and a gloss black version from the old Black Arrows aerobatic team.

Don't know of any others.

I have the SAMI Modellers data file for the Hunter and there are some nice schemes in there but you would have to gather the decals from far and wide.

I know Eli (Zotz decals) has a 1/32 sheet of Middle Eastern country's roundels etc so that may be a start.

Hey all

Thanks for the info Phil. I guess I'll figure out what the markings will be after I'm finished decaling it :P

Blackbetty...yeah I scoped your build and a couple :hmmm:'s slipped from my vocal chords. Guess we'll find out!

  • 1 month later...

Hey all

Now that I'm building again, I figured I'd post an update on what I've been up to...

These are shots of the gun bay. I drilled out the gun ports and cut up some small brass tubing and attached them for gun barrels. I goobered and ended up having to make the barrels protrude a bit.

Nose gear bay with some stuff added...I know, it's probably not that accurate but it works...

And the main gear wells...again, probably not real accurate but it works...

Starboard well...

Port well...

Also rescribed the wings and have been working on cleaning up the SAC metal gear legs...nasty lookin' things. still not sure if I'm going to use 'em or not.

Anyway, that's where I'm at. Thanks for lookin. Comments always welcome!

Later
