CANicoll
Hopefully you don't have the problem I just ran into, but just in case: I recently purchased a new set of MicroSol and MicroSet to replace my invaluable old bottles. I use this on all of my decals - good stuff! I opened my new bottle of MicroSol and as usual I peeked in (I don't know why I do this, but I do ...) and was stunned to see a bunch of 'stuff' floating in a brand new bottle I've never opened before. I poured it out into a small black cup and this is what I found (all the white bits): Straining it resulted in this: Looking inside the top, it is apparent that the bits came from the inner ring. The top on the right is flatter, where the tip of the ring broke off. Here the new lid compared to another lid (another top on the left) and you can see the difference: The 'broken' lid has the number 43 embossed in it. My other lids are 30 and 110 and they are fine. The oldest doesn't have the inner ring, just a paper layer: I don't know if it is a manufacturing issue or packaging or what. The MicroSet that came at the same time does not have same problem with its top. While I had the funnel out I went ahead and filtered the MicroSet as well, old and new. THAT was a good idea! I think there may be a problem with some of their new tops, but the rest of the stuff is probably from dirty brushes so I'm DEFINTELY going to be taking a look a my brushes. Check your bottles out, just in case! Chris MikeMaben, Big Texan, LSP_K2 and 2 others

LSP_Kevin
I had this on a really old bottle of Micro Sol that I only recently threw out. I probably had it for over 20 years. Perhaps the weak acids in the solution might be responsible for some deterioration in the plastic, though that seems doubtful. I certainly don't have the same problem on my new(ish) bottle. mattlow
I had a bottle of Micro Sol where the cap actually broke in two, horizontally. I think as this stuff is basically a vinegar like substance the acids, as kevin says, denature the plastic and make it brittle. The stress within the screwed down cap forced it to basically snap. I decanted mine to a glass bottle. By the way, where'd you get the nifty funnel/strainer..? Matt Jack

CANicoll
Matt, got a set of strainers from MicroMark $20 for a set with three different strainer sizes. Got them to strain paint, but I guess I don't think paint enough to be able to strain it. Chris
ssculptor
Did it occur to any of you to write the manufacturer of the paints and complain to them? Some companies will send you new bottles of paint, or give you a certificate for one so you could pick it up at your favorite LHS.

I might send them a note with the pictures so they can check and see if there have been other problems. These two bottles will last me for a few years I'm sure. Out2gtcha
This has happened to me on many separate instances with Sol. I'm not sure what it is about the product, but it seems to attract particles to the solution. I used a coffee filter to filter out every bit of contaminate from my bottle......then found out soon after that if the brush you use is not 100% clean, it will re-contaminate the bottle. Both coffee filters and pantie-hose/nylons work good as gunk filters. CANicoll
CANicoll
Brian, My MicroSet, which I use much more often than MicroSol, was a mess of particles but as you pointed out, any gunk on the brush seems to find its way into the bottle. Lesson learned! Coffee filters - I need to remember those. I have a coffee press and Kuerig (no filters) but will have to go pick some up. Definitely looking at having a brush-cleaning and then keeping a close eye on my decal setting solutions. Cheers guys! Chris Out2gtcha
