Spitfire Mk IXc 306 (Polish) Squadron, RAF Northolt

OK - so I'm probably committing to too much - but about to start on my PR Mk XI this evening and, well, sometimes it works having a 'production line' of similar models on the workbench.

So - have decided to build a Mk IXc in parallel - a decision sealed when I found my Kagero Top Colours book on the Mk IX - and the scheme/decals for 306 Sqn at Northolt - the next closest Spitfire airfield to Edgar and an excuse to do a fighter as well as a PR bird.

Add to that the opportunity to honour many of the Polish pilots that flew with the RAF - in this case Squadron Leader Kazimierz Rutkowski.

Progress pix on this and the XI over next few days...

OK - after a delay whilst I photographed the unmolested kit for a review (surprisingly we don't already have a review of this kit on LSP) - I've started...

The scheme:

Wings removed from sprues and prepped:

Rear fuselage sections around tail wheel mount added (these are separate parts to facilitate the retractable undercarriage in the Mi VIII kit). As you can see - the fit is faultless:

Oh - and review of the Kagero TopColors book and decals incoming  :)

More soon - promise!

And we're off....

I can never get over seeing how crisp these Tamiya parts are. Deep happy joy joy.

I may have to try to track one of these Kagero books down. The profiles look so good.

Looking forward to more when you get to it Iain, good job.
