Phartycr0c
First off the rank for this years theme is the FLY Hurricane 2b DSC_5752 DSC_5758 DSC_5771 DSC_5761 DSC_5759 DSC_5756 The Fly kit is, once beaten into shape quite nice, however it is not without its issues. The wheel well (resin) needs reducing in height substantially in order to allow the wings to fit underneath the cockpit interior fittings. The fit of the upper wings to to the fuselage is poor to say the least, and takes a lot of work / clamping / gripping in order to get anywhere a reasonable fit. The light brown plastic is quite hard and takes a while to start reacting, with for example, Tamiya extra thin. once glued, its rock solid and sands really well. The resin details are really nice and well defined although the full colour instructions in some cases are not clear in the build sequence and in a couple of cases show detail that simply does not exist in the kit which is quite strange. The decals, despite giving the appearance of rubber door mats are up there with the best decals I have worked with. Thin, little to no carrier film, and settle down beautifully. Reverting to my magnetic trials, the prop is attached to the aircraft using the same micro earth magnets that I used on the armament of my recent A10. A little gimmicky I know but it stops the worry of the prop breaking during transport. on another note, The Earth Brown I used for the upper camouflage is a little too dark. It was actually a mix of two citadel acrylic paint shades and looked ok prior to gloss coat washes etc, that and the final semi gloss is maybe a little too shiny, Im in two minds as to whether or not to flatten it down a little. So there she is. Next up possibly a harrier, or a Mosquito, im not sure yet. Bomber_County
Is this the same Hurricane you bought at Telford 2years ago? Great finish .....congratulations Phartycr0c
TorbenD
Totally top finish! Got a couple in my stash, I think Fly have really caught the agricultural nature of the Mk1's metal wings and they look particularly fine here. Torben It is a nice kit with but not without its issues but then if everything just fell together the hobby would be boring eh? One thing to be aware of is the canopy glass. When in the closed position it fits lovely but when it is put in the open position similar to mine, the curvature of the fuselage behind the cockpit wont allow it to sit correctly. Attempting to push it into the correct position forces the canopy sides apart with the risk of cracking. I had to gently warm the plastic to get it to conform before glueing it into position permanently.
