Hasegawa Ju-87G

Since this is the Aces group build, I see it very fitting to start on the Hasegawa Ju-87 flown by Hans-Ulrich Rudel, one of 27 german aviator who were awarded the Ritterkreuz mit goldenen Eichenlaub und Schwerter mit Diamanten.

As a stuka pilot he flew 2,530 combat missions and claimed a total of 2,000 targets destroyed - including 800 vehicles, 519 tanks, 150 artillery guns, a destroyer, two cruisers, one Soviet battleship, 70 landing craft, 4 armored trains, several bridges and 9 aircraft (one will need 5 to become an ace).

The kit is the Hasegawa Junkers Ju-87G, which comes with the decals for Rudels plane. It also has a pilot figure and a shepard dog but those will not be used in this group build. The extras are from Mastercaster, correct props and better exhausts and the other item is the no spat landing gear.

Look forward to seeing you build this one Eric. Rudel's combat stats are simply staggering. I think he alone has destroyed more tanks than my country has ever owned. Pity he was such a ragin National Socialist during and well n truly after the war.

No doubt about the mans skill and courage though.

Cheers Matty

And i always had a hate/love relation to the Ju 87...its butt ugly and sinister and yet kinda portays the style of the 30's very well.

Erik: Good choice/variety. I remember reading Rudel's autobiography when a youngster. Impressive stuff, even if he was a Nazi. Pics of brewed up t-34's and a sunken Russki BB. The account sez he was flying a FW-190D when he surrendered on an America airstrip (crashlanded) rather than being captured by the Russians.

GB Cheers,

Erik, looks to be a good start! I am glad to see that you will be using the props and gear legs I made... I am still curious to see how they will look in a finished build! So get crack'in my man! Happy modelling!

Cheers

Alan
