Thai AF L-39ZA/ART in 1/32 scale?

Hi,

The HPH Albatros is a terrific kit. Unfortunately, I'm not really fond of the color schemes. The Thai camo and AIM-9 warload look far more attractive to my eyes. However, such a camo scheme choice generated two questions:

- The markings: not the easiest part but with part of the kit stencils, an enlarged copy of 1/48th ones, possibly national markings from a F-5E and some other custom markings, this should be possible. Indeed, I don't think we will ever get large scale decals for this obscure version...

- The cockpit changes: The plane got Israeli avionics and an Elbit HUD that will have to be scratchbuild. Here I found conflicting information. I found one picture of the front IP and except the different HUD, this looks similar to a classical ZA configuration. HOWEVER, Eduard released this version in small scale and added a CRT/LCD display on the right side of this front panel! So, I'm a little bit puzzled! Does this means that there were different versions of the IP: proto/production or different batches? Or is somebody wrong?

The lack of references about the Albatros (nothing except the WWP book) does not really help...

So if anybody has any relevant information about such aspects, do not hesitate to publish them!

Thanks in advance.

Nice model thanks for the link, as you no doubt know Siam Scale produced a set in 1/48 http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=257657http://www.modelivery.com/product.detail_331934_en_1439782#  I did contact the shop to see if they were going to be released in 1/32, but this was back in December 2012, maybe Eli could be persuaded http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=28641&page=17&hl=siam&do=findComment&comment=376727

Thanks Andy.

I had such pictures. Btw if you look at the cockpit picture on the Czech site and compare it with the IP decal on the Siam decals (or the Eduard IP), you will see the conflicting information I mentioned in my post: no CRT/LCD display on the picture but one on the decals!

I guess the picture probably shows a prototype. So, I'm still looking for correct pit pictures.

I forgot Eli's question. I've the complete Thai blue camo scheme as I've some dozens of good external pictures but do not have sufficient close up of the stencils. So even if a decal scheme was considered I do not have enough information to make a comprehensive scheme. I'll try to get the quarter scale sheet.

Thanks a lot Andy!

I didn't find this page. Some pictures will be very useful!!!

I thought twice regarding the IP. Such an advanced type of HUD normally repeats data displayed on a CRT/LCD. So, I'll go with this configuration:

This is not the best reference but as Siam decals and Eduard are agreeing, this is better than nothing... Too bad HPH did not include this version on the Eduard sheet of the kit. This would not have ask for a lot of effort as Eduard released this in a smaller scale!

The IP parts are so nice it is a little bit frustrating to be forced to modify them.

I did find that one on Fine Scale, very frustrating not to be able to find the real thing, some good photos and a video on this site http://thaidefense-news.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/l-39-wing-41-wing-4-new-color.html#uds-search-resultshttp://thaidefense-news.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/l-39-wing-41-wing-4-new-color.html#uds-search-results

Oooops! Sorry. I should indeed clean the box. Yes I got the DVD from Aviationmegastore and have to say it is the absolute reference. This contains a lot of huge resolution large pictures. This even gives an excellent view of all the markings including the technical stencils for the brave soul willing to recreate them.

Here it is:

https://www.aviationmegastore.com/in-detail-no-5-thai-aircraft-in-detail-set-in-0005-best-wings-set-in-0005-aviation-photo-cds/product/?action=prodinfo&art=84246

Unfortunately, the CD with the L-39 is not available for many years. This is why I got the DVD that also contains other walkarounds ( A-10, Hornet, SuperHornet, Hawk and Alpha Jet).

Hope this helps.

BR
