TBF-1C primer color fuselage

Hi folks,

need your help. I am going to proceed with my Avenger soon and am scanning some reference photos. On several ones I saw these bright spots on the wing roots.  Now, my question is, is this bare metal and/or primer? And if primer, then what color? I found enough reference for the color inside the cockpit, cowling, wheel well (see ipms Stockholm page). But I can´t find any hint what primer color those early TBF had on the rest of the fuselage.

Maybe one of the experts here has some info for me.

Dirk

Based on what i've observed of weathering on Corsairs and Hellcats, my take is this is a light shade of Yellow Zinc Chromate primer. Testors makes it in enamel (in the itty bitty PLA Enamel bottle) and Tamiya makes a Yellow Green which is close, as does Mr Color.

Lately i've been making my own YZC primer from scratch by starting with Tamiya White Surface Primer, and slowly adding Zinc Chromate Yellow til i get a shade i'm happy with.
