And a few more of the HMS Rodney:

To build the Rodney with the Admiralty camouflage dating 1942 and beyond, the Pontos set is essential, since it incorporates all of the changes made to the ship. For example, around this time she had 17 20mm Oerlikon cannon, but the kit only provides 13, as well as the quad 0.50 machine guns which were deleted. There were also changes made to the bridge structure, and more pom-pom directors fitted. While the Pontos set is expensive, I figured that since this is going to be my one large battleship build, I might as well go for it. Hope you like her so far!

That's magic Tom!

Ship isn't bad either - please share more as you go along!

Iain,

Thanks! Still need to do some light weathering with pastels. I'm treating this as a series of kits, each turret for example. I plan to move on to the bridge next.

Wow, that's incredible! Really great work..............cant wait to see what it looks like with some paint on the ship too!

Brian, thanks! Also, thanks to your build, I scratchbuilt a cockpit, but my macro doesn't go that far. I can't wait for paint either:

Holy smokes that is awesome on all levels - what a huge project!!

Patrick, thank you! Back in the day I used to do projects like this regularly, but now I'm treating this as a big collection of mini-builds. So far so fun!

Really nice work! I'm using the Pontos set on the 1/200 Missouri so I understand how difficult it is to get some of the parts square when folding.I look forward  to seeing the progress.

Thanks Maxim! I salute you for the epic scale of your work. I've been loving the precision and detail of the Pontos set, even if I need a little detective work from time to time with the instructions. How is it with your set? I've been using a Hold ‘n Fold set extensively.

You're not wrong about their instructions. Sometimes they leave you scratching your head. My set is ok as I have the super detailed set and the extra set. All my 40mm gun tubs, 20 of them, are resin and multiple etch pieces. I'm tired of drilling grab handle holes already! At least they give you templates. Thinking of the Rodney after the Missouri.

Although I really want to build a ship, dont think I have the guts for it. That is awesome work.

Thank you! It's just like building an aircraft model, just shaped differently!

It would be great to see you work your magic with this kit. These builds are so epic I have to just turn each component into its own project. Just doing one pom-pom took me about four hours. I hope the others go faster!

That's awesome.  Can't believe you rigged a 1/200 scale aircraft.

Impressive.

Gaz

Gaz, you are very kind! To be honest, the Pontos set provides all of the rigging, but I did have to scratchbuild the cockpit.

Cheers, Tom
