ZM A-1J Skyraider [19/10/2017 - exhaust staining]

Been working on this one a little while, it's been a lovely kit so far.

Added an Aires cockpit and the ZM Weapons set for a USAF A-1. Really want to try and get my hands on the Zotz 32050 decal sheet for this as well.

Been working on the engine as a first step.

Great start! Which aircraft did you want to replicate?

Cheers, Tom

Firebird is the one I'm mainly after, even if its just the cowling markings! The rest I can cobble/make myself. Trying to get a scan or a B&W version off Eli so I can make a mask and spray it if possible.

Absolutely brilliant work. One thing I've never understood about this kit and many others, wouldn't the pilot have to have legs about 9 feet long to reach the rudder pedals? I mean if his butt was in the back of the seat it would be impossible to reach the pedals. Any idea of a correction for this? Thanks.

I can't say I considered this too much as you cant see that far into the cockpit when it's fitted. As a correction, it'd be really easy just put a spacer in at the top to bring the pedal box forward.

Hi Breaker-

Looks great!

How did the Aires glareshield fit? Kinda scratching my head on that part- Working on one as well.. the Aires part Seems oversized..any thoughts?

Cheers

Pete

I got mine to fit really nicely but it took a lot of dry fitting and filing. I found the shape at the rear wasn't right, so I used the kit part as a reference to reshape the aires part, basically clipped the corners off and smoothed them out.

I removed all of the 'lip' underneath the fuselage line but making sure I had enough plastic left for the canopy to bond well. Then it was just a case of continuously dry fitting.

To put it in, I tilted it forward, inserted top facing forward and then flipped it into position. I used capillary action to pull thin superglue into the seam.

Breaker,

The Black primer looks great. Are you going to be doing Black basing or just use it for color modulation and toning down the brightness of the colors for a more scale effect?

Joel

All of the above. I'm hoping to have a very dirty plane when it's finished!
