1973 Revell Dassault Mirage III with IsraCast Kfir C.2 conversion

Ok, figured I might as well get to building and posting something.  I am still putting together my paint booth which the kit is sitting on the top drawer.  The main piece should be finished by Friday evening and then I can order the spray booth.  Anyway, I believe someone had asked about this prior to me posting this; however, this is about the only kit I have that is old enough.  I do have a Beaufighter (as do several others, lol) but I am not in a RAF mood right now.  Progress may be slow, but I will give it my all.  BTW, both the kit and resin transkit were purchased from fellow board members.

This is awesome. I had one Revell Mirage which I had bought in the hope of sourcing one of the Isracast conversion. I was unsuccessful in that and I ended up building it OOB in Swiss marking for my son. I recently noticed that the Isracast conversion are again available for purchase from Isracast website. I will follow with much interest. David

I am not sure if they will do a conversion for the Italeri kit, but I do know they are planning a new release on the Ra'am transkit. I have not seen all the releases for next year so maybe someone can advise if there is a plan from Italeri or Kinetic to do the Kfir.

HI

interesting project !!!! I will follow this build ...... I built the F 21 / kfir C1 version last year ,( I think the WIP is still available here) there were no real issues...... so good luck , and happy modeling ...

I wonder is the isracast conversion would fit to the I talieri mirage ??? ...I have  just tested  the resin nose to the Italieri kit , not bad at the first looks

I ordered the Pace Peacekeeper 36" booth. Supposed to be really quiet and work very well. As soon as it goes in I am making a trip to Lowe's for all the ducting.

Just got word that it will be delivered tomorrow sometime.  So sometime over the Christmas weekend I will be putting the duct in and finally throwing some paint!  Merry Christmas to me!

I have the booth in.  I am just waiting on some paint to come in.  I thought I had all the proper colors, but alas, I was missing some aggressor gray.  I have started adding all of the resin pieces to the fuselage.  I am beginning to think that nothing fits on this kit.  I am going to have to apply a lot of putty and do a lot of scribing before painting.  I will post pics sometime this weekend.

Sometime we are just idiots.  Well at least I know I am.  Will be getting to that shortly.

Anyway, I finally got some time in the booth and have started some assembly.  It seems to me that nothing fits either with the resin or with the kit.  I do have the right kit.  Who knows.  It is old, but then again that is the challenge for this challenge.

I started cutting out the landing gear bays on both wings.  This really isn't too difficult as it basically is grinding and then sanding it flush on the inside surface.

If your desk isn't dusty, you ain't working...

Thought I was doing really well with the wells in place, both the wings glued together.  Then it hit me....  The inside portion of the bay is actually thicker than the outside thus requiring them to be attached to the fuselage halves first and then the wings.  How to overcome this...   Well, I basically made a long slit in the wing root after cutting out the portion of the bay on the fuselage.  Some of this plastic is flexible.  Some of it is brittle, but disaster was averted.

I am also trying out my new Grex airbrush as well as some new paints.  This is vallejo white surface primer.  I think I need to go up on the psi, but it did cover ok.

Normally I would be worried about overspray, but this kit has raised lines and it will all get rescribed.  I also worked on the fin.

A bit of comparison.  Both are the same scale.  The kit up front is the RoG Piper.
