Iain Posted July 26, 2007 Author Share Posted July 26, 2007 Apologies - a bit slow - but tail feathers now had a lot of work... Filled with Polyurethane resin... Cut, sanded, filled, re-shaped... It's getting there... Want to get each component spot on, primered and surface scribed/rivetted - before joining it all together and doing the fillets... As a quick reminder of the size - Trumpeters P-40 again for comparison! Oh - and the build is now in memory of Dave (UMI Resins) RIP - thanks for all the help and inspiration mate! Having just spent some time wading through a rather nice 1:48 B-47 build over on ARC, and a post re scratch building one in 1:48 over on Hyperscale I can feel Connies Mojo coming back... Iain Posted May 8, 2011 Author Share Posted May 8, 2011 (edited) OK - as promised - some updates on LSP Today I have mostly been printing out scans of the Heller Constellation - enlarged by 225% - and stuck together to compare with the kit supplied plans and the parts. To be honest I *have* been putting this off because I was concerned about what I'd find. Kit dyelines and the scans. Good news is that the fuselages match very well. 109G is there to give a sense of size (also 1:32). Yup - it's big (kitchen floor safest place to lay everything out). Fuselage half laid over the scans - rather good likeness actually!! Just some tweaks to the rear shape-wise - and I was already expecting this. Will also cure the somewhat 'blunt' ending to the fuselage in plan as moulded. Wings - if you recall I had my doubts as to the span as moulded - and the spacing between cowlings - based upon comparison with the kit drawings. Well, the scans of the Heller kit agree perfectly on how far out the cowl spacing is - but also suggest the outer wing sections are even shorter that first thought. It's also highlighted the tip tanks being way oversize - out with the razor saw! Have already got my 'cut and shut' planned - may perform that this evening. Tail fins had been modded as per photos and drawings - and they match the scaled up Heller items nicely - bar a few tweaks Right - off to do some more measuring - and some cutting... But about time I did something concrete - determined to have something that shows good progress by Telford so I can stop the Mickey taking! Iain Posted May 8, 2011 Author Share Posted May 8, 2011 Been carefully marking out positions and sizes of fuselage windows: Holes so far drilled out to 7mm and 8mm - the latter will be opened out to 10mm diameter. Have used wood drills as these give precision placement on the plastic and a power driver as this turns at far lower speeds than a drill and prevents heat/plastic melting around each hole. The nose gear bay all marked out and exactly 2.25 times larger (linear) compared to the Heller 1:72 kit. Need to pour over photos now before I make the cuts to ensure all is good with regard to juxtapositions of windows/doors etc.. More later in the week...
