TBF-1C Trumpeter 1/32

After a while of silence, due to the photobucket incident, I decided to post here my latest project. Its going to be a TBF1C. Which markings is not clear now. Therefore I started with the engine and the cockpit. But I know, that the cockpit will not be painted in bronze green. :-)

I built the kit engine with extra details. First I thought about opening the cowling, but decided against it. Therefore I bought the R-2600 engine from HPH. This one will go into the kit. The other engine will be displayed outside on a jig. I already built a jig, but only for handling while painting. Ignition cables are 0.4mm lead wire. And after I bought a punch&die set, I could add more details. lol

The propeller is finished.

The ip was a time-consuming affair. Since the holes for the gauges are to small I had to open them up. But instead of the kit dials, I got the ones from Airscale. Placards are from Archer. I added more details as well on the ip. But it doesn´t look that crisp how I wanted to look like. Anyway. Once build into the cockpit, it won´t be that prominent any more. The cockpitfloor received rivets from Archer testing how the handle.

Now the big plan is, to redo all rivets on the fuselage and the wings. I still can´t understand why Trumpeter didn´t do raised ones. So much easyier.  But until that step there is the complete cockpit to finish. That will take a while

Thats so far for the start of the topic. More infos will follow.

Thanks guys!

here a detail shot of the kit engine. Enhanced with the Eduard PE parts. There was some discussion about the correct placement of the spark plugs. The detonation indicator boss is not a place to put the plugs.

Next step were those Archer rivets. Since I plan to add them on the fuselage as well, I tried them on the bulk walls. Handeling them is easy. 30 sec warm water and they behave like normal decals. You can lay them in curves. The carrier film will not be seen after paint and a varnish.

You can see, that this will be an early version of the TBF, since the front cockpit section should be painted in bronze green. The one from Mr. Paint is in my eyes wrong. So I mixed it with green and a drip gray. If this is the correct paint match...Idk.

I am using the interior set from Eduard. The side panel has a lot of switches. Since those Eduard prepainted cockpit panels a flat I tried to replicate those switches. Therefore I used a diament coated dental drill with a turbine and drilled 0.2mm holes in the panel and added lead wire. But once installed in the cockpit...you don´t see it very well.

Now I am at the point that I could put the cockpit together. The IP is temporarly fixed, since I had to cut of a part from the lower middle console. I will glue the ip once the cockpit is attached to the fuselage half. Then I will add also all those little pe handles and some more wires. The seatbelts are from HGW. I think I overdid them a bit with the brownish oil-wash. Chipping on the seat went well. I found a nice ref photo (credits on photo unknown).

Next step is the middle section with the radio equipment.
