  1. In the first couple pics I thought it was too much but the final product looks superb! I'm sure it looks different in person and it's all about what you like anyhow! Overall great looking Corsair!
  2. Simply incredible build! Your painting and weathering skills are extraordinary! Sincerely Chris
  3. Thanks for looking everybody! I really tried to push myself on this build and I'm very happy with the results! It is the centerpiece of my small collection.
  4. Incredible work!! Your work is inspiring! I think I sense an SBD in my future.
  5. Ok gang new pics are up in the RFI section!
  6. Greetings everyone! This is my first post in the RFI section of this forum. This is my rendition of Tamiya's awesome F4U-1 Corsair. I completed this kit using model master paints with some weathering using Tamiya's weathering pastels and also some from AK. My aftermarket goodies included cockpit and main decals from Barracuda, Montex mini mask, cowl flaps from Vector, seatbelts from HGW, tires from Barracuda and engine upgrade kit also from Barracuda. This kit was a joy to build and I see myself building another in the future. Please bear with me as I have not been able to make a good photo booth and my photo skills are only in the novice category. Thanks to everyone interested in taking a look and to those who helped me along the way with kind words and support! Happy modeling!
  7. Ok I think I'm getting it so here's a little teaser. Thanks for the help Maru!
  8. I'm having a bit of a problem. I opened an imgur account but I can't get the images to post in the forum. Anyone have any ideas?
  9. Hopefully soon! Still trying to figure out which of the photo hosting sites to use. I don't get much free time lately due to working long hours but rest assured I haven't forgotten. Thank you for the interest!
  10. Thanks for the info Maru! I'll be looking into one of them for sure!
  11. Hey Maru, I did actually complete this fine bird some time ago but never got around to posting the finished product in the RFI forum. Now with the photobucket problem I don't know how to go about posting pictures. Do you have any suggestions?
  12. Very nice work so far on the engine! I have this same model in my stash so I will be watching your build closely for tips and ideas. Keep up the good work. Chris
  13. Hello everyone! I'm back again with another update. I've run into my first disappointment with this build. While attaching the cowl flaps and cowl pieces I ran into a hefty gap. This gap is most likely my fault due to perhaps not cleaning up the Vector flaps enough. Some of the attachment points were pretty boogered up and I thought I had done a sufficient job but apparently not. I'm sure that this gap problem would not have occurred if I had used the kit supplied parts for the flaps. Anyhow...it's too late now and it did kind of discourage me on this build but it also taught me what not to do on my next Corsair build! Yes, there will be another...the Corsair is my favorite aircraft! After I got over my disappointment, I painted the bottom of the aircraft in light gray followed by Navy blue gray on top...both were Model Master enamel. After that cured, I sprayed a couple coats of Pledge floor polish with Future shine and continued to apply some Barracuda's amazing decals. Using the Micro Set/Sol combination these decals settled right down over some raised detail on the wings. The only problem with the decals is that they are slightly transparent which is really noticeable on the fuselage under the star. Enough of my rambling...let's see some pictures! That's all for now. Until next time, happy modeling and thanks for looking.
