Team please allow me to share a 1/48 C-130J Royal Air Force of Oman from Italeri.

Kit: Italeri (2463)

Scale: 1:48

Livery: Royal Air Force of Oman ( or if you prefer the original: سلاح الجو السلطاني عمان)

Paint: Vallejo Model Color, Vallejo Model Air, Vallejo Metal Color

Decals: my own and kit decals for stencils

The kit has been around the block a few years hence it does have raised panel lines that needed rescribing. The fit of the model was however very decent. The cargo area seats are scratch built using masking tape and plasticard. In the end it was an enjoyable build however a word of caution to fellow builders planning to tackle the 1/48 Herc: the aircraft is huge and heavy (60x80cm) so it does present a challenge for handling while painting, decaling and needless to say dispalying and transport.

The kit was in the end intended to be a technolgy demonstrator however the original customer backed out of the project and a fellow modeler here on LSP KarimB has said he did like it. We have become friends over time as there are not that many plastic modelers here in the Middle East and I have made a decision to surprise Karim by a presenting the model to him during our pre-arranged visit. Well the visit went great however the transport not so. Thanks to an airline that should not be named the kit has arrived as a 1/48 scale C-130J puzzle. Needless to say our friendship did not suffer and actually we now can laugh about the subject but the first sight post landing was disappointing.

Here are a few pictures of the finished subject before and after its first and last flight.

Cheers,

Jarda Hajecek

Jarda my friend!

Im glad you decided to post the herc!

The photos are superb, and i have to say the kit is even more beautiful in the flesh!

I was surprised to see you arrive with this HUGE box on that day and i understand your frustration at how she arrived even with the boxing and all the labels... she will be repaired and displayed where she rightfully belongs, in the middle of my new planned display cabinet!

Absolutely brilliant Herc - simply stellar work. I know Karim will do the Herc justice with both the repair and then her place of honor in his display case.

Looking at the damage, may I suggest if the cause besides the TLC the shipper bestowed on the box, was not padding the inside, keeping the Herc from moving or shifting.Sometimes snigging things up might have helped prevent some of the damage.

Thank you team for the nice comments. Yes come to think of it, I should have added some Styrofoam padding and bulkheads especially when it took me some time just to design and build the box. I have learned my lesson with next build which was CH-47 in 1/35, needless to say that one got hand carried to its end customer.
