ANR Macchi C.205

Greetings!

Here's my entry for the Derby, the Pacific Coast C.205 kit. I've been wanting to tackle this one for a long time now - even started a WIP thread back in March - but never touched the thing. I'm hoping that this GB will allow me to focus on just two kits and get this one done.

It will of course be 'Box Stock' with the exception of some decals. Those being the Mike Grant rings, without which I'd not be able to achieve the scheme I want.

Should be fun!

Dave,

Bravo excellent choice for this GB.There's a mask availible for the Smoke Rings from Gator's Mask.I can't speak to the quality of these as I haven't received mine yet,but if it's half as good as Gator's naval mask they should be excellent. The owner Kenny can even make up custom mask for you ,just send him a scan of the artwork or decals for measurement.I plan on trying this out with Italian National Markings (Regia Aeronautica) soon. The web site is gatorsmask.com check it out lots of mask both Naval and Aircraft in three scales.

Are you planning to do your Macchi 205 in Regia Aeronautic markings or ANR either one would be most excellent. As always I'll be following your 205 thread with great interest. Now get to work,LOL.

Thanks Gregory!

I've used the Mike Grant decals on a 1/48 C.205 I did last year and was thrilled with them. Remarkably thin and they snuggle right down into every detail. My airbrush skills are just this side of 'garden hose' so it's my best hope for a decent result.

At the moment I'm leaning towards 'Serie I pil. Ten. B. Cortini 352 Sq. Gr. 51 ST., Capoterra - Sardegna - luglio 1943'. I have no idea what any of that means  but it looks pretty on the profile sheet.

Hi Dave,

Great choice-I got one myself cheapish off ebay not long ago. I know you're doing it pretty much oob, but you might find these helpful: http://www.webalice.it/barto80/Articoli/Walkaround/c205.htm http://digilander.libero.it/enniotarantola...02Photofile.htm http://www.hyperscale.com/2007/features/c20532mdt_1.htm

Also Montex make a set of masks...

All the best!

Hey Dave,

Wake up it's only 0338.Time to get some modelling done. Just kidding how's the Macchi progressing?

0340 Still waiting

Regards,

yeah, I've been up waiting...

Seriously, though, I don't have this kit, but I've built the 200 and I've just got the paint on my 202. Pay extra attention to the fuselage seams and the wing/fuselage joints. They are very nice kits - the cockpits are awesome.

Well I did get some work done on the IP and have separated most of the main pieces from the trees to do a little test-fitting but that's it so far. The Corsair has been taking the bulk of my attention. I need to get rolling on this one this weekend since this is a much shorter GB. ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

The instrument panel is nearly finished now. I just need to add some glass to the gunsight, some clear glue to the dials for a glass effect and maybe tidy up some of the drybrushing. The kit includes PE panels with a film backing for the dials. Provided you paint the back of that film white they show through pretty well. As is often the case the extreme magnification of the macro setting makes some things look overdone.

There are also a number of PE levers included. These may or may not survive until the IP is installed and the fuselage closed. I've already had to reattach more than one, more than once.

PE details are now being added to the side walls of the cockpit. The PE set that's included with this kit is by Eduard and is up to their very high standards. They'd only be better if they were pre-painted.

Tonight's progress...

Most of the cockpit construction is complete and will be getting primer soon. There are still some tiny bits to add but they'll go on after the main paint since I don't think they'd stay in place.

Hi everyone..

I have two questions for the masters, please:

1) Has anyone used Lifecolor UA 116 Italian interior green? It came highly recommended by PCM plus it's made in Italy so I figured it had to be a decent match. I also don't have any color pics showing the interior of a C.205. But this color looks like a really strange pastel lime green!! Is this right?!??

2) One of the only sets of color instructions I've been able to find indicated that the LG bays were painted in the same color as the belly. Is this correct also?

I painted the main interior color tonight which spurred the question about the Lifecolor green....

Cockpit looks great so far Dave and that instrument panel really looks nice. Can't tell from the pic if the fuselage interior is even painted. Probably my blurry eyes or filthy laptop screen. I know next to nothing about Italian a/c so am going to pay attention to your build.
