Hardcore
It is so easy to buy Meng`s little kits. They are cheap and cute. What's not to like? I have ordered the king tiger too. The quality of the tiger 1 suggest that that one will also be a hit.The tiger is small, with minimum number of parts, so I figured it is perfect opportunity to test colors and techniques (or actually learn to paint for real...)After assembly I grabbed the only available gray color at hand, a Vallejo panzer gray Primer(sic). This will show through the chipping as steel. It may too dark but I don't care much. I wouldn't delay the build.Next I sort of dry brushed chipping fluid were it looked suitable. The idea is to get more control over the process from the beginning. (I put nothing on the wheels) Actually the method i originally intended to test was to airbrush the fluid on select areasOver this I sprayed Tamiya dark yellow, followed by a second coat with a DY+WHITE+BUFF mix I read about somewhere on the web. After this I turned to the tracks. I had no flat black so Vallejo's Primer, which is quite dark, was fed to the AB once more.At this point I took a break to go home, read some more on Weathering and rummage around for colors simulating dust and rust.It is ironic but it will be the first tank i ever finish. PS. the kit code is MNGWWT-001 if you want to go buy it. Edited June 14, 2017 by Hardcore Bill Cross, Shawn M and Joe66

Hardcore
Disaster! The tracks does not fit the running gear! Annoying, and no practical solution. I could narrow the drive wheel but then the running wheels won't fit. Well, i 'keep calm and carry on'. The next step was to apply rust color. Next step will be to mask and paint gun metal for the worn surfaces.
Hardcore
I very much think that's why Meng have no teeth on the drive sprocket. With that soft rubber track the longer unsupported edge would no doubt roll over and curl up. I think they made the decision to re jig the fit if the tracks to work/ fit the running gear they had. That's one reason I went with replacing the tracks. The other is that I'm certifiably insane. Looking foreword to seeing more pictures of your paint job. Hm, I could file them down completely on the rubber side.
Hardcore
Painting tow cables is tiresome since they are not moulded separately. Took me over an hour to do it, but then I was discusing politics at the same time with members of the club.I managed quite well considering my tendency to shake and will rely on the wash to cower my mistakes:) Speaking of mistakes my idea of dry brushing on chipping fluid didn't work that well. Perhaps the Tamiya paint was not very permeable, or the two coats was one too much, or I may have not been generous enough with the fluid. I suspect the former (you can see traces of the fluid under the paint here and there) .The paint job took a beating when scrubbing with water. I hope that will work in my favor over time. I gave the thing some future with the AB to avoid getting a too dry surface for the oil wash. That's what make it look darker. Decals worked well but where not quite in register. NVM. Next week I will wash it. I have a green brown panel wash I may try! Edited June 21, 2017 by Hardcore Shawn M and dutik

Hardcore
In comparison the Tigers are bigger models. You may want to buy another Sherman, or four, to even out things a bit. Shawn M
