Carl,

Good luck on your 2nd try at painting the figure. I've never gotten one half good enough to use. It's a skill set I just never mastered the basics of.

Thanks Joel! I'll take all the luck I can get. I've got exactly one model with a flight crew and that is my UH-1C Huey.

So after a bunch of procrastinating this week, I took the plunge.

I did a primer coat of Tamiya Surface Primer from the jar.

I then airbrushed the bare arms and legs using Vallejo flat flesh.

I then started painting the rest of him. I figured I would do something so went with his socks.

I used British Tankcrew for those.

Next up was his shirt, shorts, and Mae West.

I used British Tankcrew highlight with a touch of white for the shirt and shorts. The Mae West was done with Over Yellow and a bit of white.

At this point, I realized that his legs still had the mould seams on them. I'll have to look out for that they next time I do a figure.

I then gave the figure a wash to bring out some of the details a bit more.

The belts are next followed by his head.

Time to show the VII some love. I started work on the rear bulkhead by tracing the kit one onto sheet styrene.

After test fitting it to confirm that it fit, I then cut it apart to create the step in it.

I then strip styrene and made the step.

Next up was some prominent tubing in the cockpit. I used 0.7mm wire and bent it to shape.

To make it work, I had to mount the cockpit sidewalls to the fuselage first. Here's they piping test fit in place.

With a coat of paint and installed in place:

Hi Carl

Nice progress on both the Spit's cockpit and the pilot figure. The front office rear bulkhead and piping looks spot on the money. Air brushing the skin tones on the pilot really seems to blend things in wonderfully. From my very limited and rather unsuccessful ventures into figures, the eyes are the key - looking mighty good.

Keep 'em coming

Peter
