Great choice Kent.  I have digital copies of the 467 and 463 photograph albums which contain other pictures of PD337, let me know if you want to see them.

Wow Max, I would really like that!

Kind regards: Kent

A little for you to ponder Kent.  Below are extracts from 463 Squadron's history written by Nobby Blundell, who was ground crew with the squadron, and from the ORBs for the Tirpitz attacks, in which different Lancs were used, neither being JO-V!  You'll see that LM587 flown on the first attack in September was JO-L and was a Mk III and would have had Hamilton paddle-blade props, and PD329 in October was JO-Y and a Mk I and as such she may have had the needle-blade props though many were retro-fitted with the Hamilton paddle-blades.  No photos yet, hopefully later!

Here's the result of the airbrush work. It's not perfect, but I think it somehow captures the rough exterior of the Lanc, better than a smooth plastic surface.

The sharp sunlight leaves no room for errors, every little irregularity shows.

At least it doesn't look so much as a plastic toy, what do you think, was it worth the effort?

Just been doing a bit of back tracking through various books in my possession and a couple of websites Kent, there's some confusion evident!  Lancaster PD337 was NOT JO-V, but JO-L, I can corroborate that from several different sources.  This fact puts the accompanying text to your picture from the AWM, which is also in the IWM collection of JO-V into doubt especially since I cannot find any reference to JO-V being a camera Lanc.  This is another example of secondary sources being taken as accurate without checking the facts by otherwise reputable institutions!

On 27/28 September 1944 JO-V (LM309) was flown by F/O Bruce Ward-Smith to attack Kaiserlautern but there is no mention of it being a photographic plane.  So if you're after historical accuracy the squadron coding should be as mentioned in my earlier post, if you're not then all this doesn't matter a jot!! :) :)

See below for a good summary of 463 squadron serials and codes:
