ICM Polikarpov I-16

Hi there,

Just finished my ICM Polikarpov I-16. Built OOB except for the wheels and gunsight from Northern Star. Sutton Harness from Radu. Painted with Akan paint. Great fitting kit, decals are nice and thin, very nice engine (of which you see next to nothing). Tail and elevators remain fully movable. A nice relaxing build. I hope you like it.

Nicely done David.

I agree with you on the Northstar replacements. I'm 75 percent thought with mine but the wheels and gun site are most welcomed replacements by Northstar. Well done Rata. I love it. Fun kit. I caution everyone on the exhaust placement. . The intructions are rather weak in exact placement in this area.

Guys,

Thank you for the kind words. I had fun building this one. I agree with Bill that it is pretty ugly but I love to have it sitting now with my (slowly) growing collection of WW2 aircrafts for the reason that it is so different.

As Alain mentioned the pipes are on the thick side. It is because they were now hollow in the first place and what you see is my ham-fisted effort at making them hollow. Soft plastic combined with below average skills and not enough patience will get you there... This is one area where resin pipes would be a nice AM item to have.

I like the suggestion of Hubert on the E-Z line. I will try to implement it when I will have recovered from the mental trauma of rigging the WnW Ninak I recently completed (yes I succumbed to the Sirens of New Zealand, I am an equal opportunity stash builder...)

Cheers,

David

Must be an "in the eye of the beholder" kind of thing, because these stubby fuselage Russian fighters (i-16, i-153, and i-15) are among my favorites, I love the 1930's style design, it was called the Golden Age of Aviation after all.  ;)

Beautiful model David!  The i-16 is on my list of aircraft to build in the future.
