rhbama64 Posted August 12, 2017 Share Posted August 12, 2017 (edited) Hi Guys! Good to be back in the community again! After years of 1/35 scale WW2 tanks, i've taken to the Air War again. The plan is for this kit to sport the Gunther Rall markings since i've met him and have his autogragh. This has been a great kit to re-learn on as every tool, technique,and putty i own has been used so far. Sure am glad i have a waldron punch set and extra Flex-i-files! Massive amounts of ejector pin marks( both raised and recessed) in horrible places, bad fit, flash, and scratch building have been employed and i seem to keep taking one step forward only to fall down the stairs. I've thrown accuracy out the window and used plastruct and data modem wiring to replace some parts and braces. The good thing is ia glutton for punishment and have already bought a Bandai Zeke(off ebay) as my next victim. Gotta get back into the swing of things before Trumpeter releases that new 1/24 Stuka and Fw-190! Anyway, here's everything laid out and ready for further priming and painting. rhbama64 Posted August 15, 2017 Author Share Posted August 15, 2017 Major setback. I dipped the canopies in Pledge and allowed to dry for 48 hours. I then masked and shot Acryl RLM 66 for the interior color and 4 hours later shot Acryl RLM 75. Had some overspray where the tape had lifted without my noticing when i pulled the masks two hours later. I used Goo Gone and it removed the overspray nicely. I then waited 48 hours and re-dipped the canopy sections in Pledge. I had dropped all 3 sections in and noticed that within 5 seconds, paint "smoke"had appeared. I immediately removed them but it's ruined. There is now dissolved paint runs all over the clear panes. This is my first time using Acryl and I am not happy at all. I did manage to get some progress made on painting and the cockpit areas and the eduard photo-etch seatbelts assembled. Hope to actually get back to gluing next week. One thing i did notice was the rlm66 instrument panel was completely swallowed by a drybrushing of lamp black oil paint. I was hoping just the bezels and high points would color but it all looks the same now. Not doing it over. I painted the wheels flat black but reeeally don't want to drybrush with gray to highlight. It just won't look like the real deal but i haven't figured out what some of you guys are using to get such beautiful rims. Certainly would love some suggestions.
