Starting off on a new build project for the year and have decided on building a 1/32 F-16C from the 64th Aggressor Squadron.  I have not built one of the Tamiya F-16s to date so I am really looking forward to building this one along with the challenge of applying and finishing the 3-tone Blizzard camouflage this aircraft was wearing in 2012.  So on with it!

List of kits and accessories that I will be utilizing for this project:

  • Tamiya Block 32 F-16C (Thunderbird kit)
  • Black Box F-16C Block 30/32 cockpit set
  • Aires F-16C Wheel Bays set
  • KASL F-16 F100-PW-200/220 Exhaust nozzle
  • Cross Delta F-16C Stiffener plates set
  • Master Model F-16 pitot tube, ADA probe and static dischargers sets
  • Wolfpack Design AN/ALQ-188 Jamming pod set
  • Zactomodels AIM-9L/M
  • AMS Resin ACMI Pod
  • Two Bobs F-16C Blizzard Bad Guy decal sheet
  • DN Models painting mask set for the 3-tone hard edge blizzard camouflage paint scheme (Set is currently being produced by DN Models and should be available very soon!)

Just getting started with making the necessarily modifications to the kit in order to fit the Block Box cockpit, progress on this project will be slow and update postings far in between for a while as summer has finally arrived here where I live in northern Michigan.  We only have about 3 months of summer here in the north country so I take advantage of every minute of it spending as much time as possible outdoors.  Oh yeah, and work to, keeps getting in the way of modelling time. Also going to be learning a new skill set with this project, learning how to photograph my work as it progresses, something I have not done much of in the past.

Kirk, great to see you kick this off!

FYI I struggled quite a bit with the BB pit and also wonder if it isn't undersized, it is WAY smaller than the TrueDetails pit.

Thank you Marcel, I have not posted any builds before so decided it was time to jump in with one.  I was playing around with the BB cockpit this morning before going to work, I think you are right it does look undersized but have not starting doing any cutting on the kit yet as I am following your build and going to let you take the lead on that!  I may end up using the kit cockpit and just do some detailing to it, undecided and not committed to the BB set just yet.

Hello Kirk!

Good to see you here building this one, a subject which I hope to do myself very soon!  I have wanted to build this aircraft since first seeing photos of it in this scheme.  I am looking forward to seeing how that KASL exhaust fits the kit, as I just got one of those myself.

Well no earth shattering progress on this project from me as I have not had much workbench time, but Mitko of DN-Models has been busy on the painting mask set and had sent me a couple templates to check the fit to the Tamiya kit, and it is coming along very well, fit is excellent.

Great! I'm travelling now, but just before I left I started to mask my Blizzard scheme with the Gators Masks set. I still have a ways to go but so far there are a few inconsistencies, at least compared to the Two Bob's depiction. I'll be curious about how the DN Models set will compare.

Cheers, Tom

And the painting mask set is here and they are available from DN Models website -www.dnmodels.com

The set allows for accurately reproducing the hard-edge Blizzard Camouflage.  Fully researched and developed from numerous photo sources and custom fit to the 1/32 and 1/48 scale Tamiya F-16C  block 30/32 kit.  Looking forward to using these!
