WnW "The Duellists" Sopwith Camel F.1 and LVG C.VI

In need of a nice out of the box kind of build while working on my Ju-188 conversion I've decided to start on this one. My plan is just build, paint and enjoy with the only aftermarket being Aviattic replacement decals.

One word of caution for anyone who has one of these is check all the parts as upon receiving it I found the LVG lower wing mounting spares broken and beyond use.

A couple of calls to Hannants and all is well with a replacement sprue D, all in all a bit of a result really as I now have a couple of wings to practice various finishes on now!!

Thinking I will be starting the LVG first but open to being swayed at the moment.

In the end the LVG won out so made a start today, first shading the cockpit/ fuselage internals with various Tamiya acrylic shades in readiness for oils.

Hopefully I will get some tonal variance in the wood effects but lets see as its only my second effort at a WnW build.

Thanks for looking in.

Second WnW build so second go at wood effects with oils, happy with the tonal difference this time but no idea how to add more "grain" effects but happy all the same.

Not sure how I will tackle the internal fuselage yet, have a couple of idea;s but will build up the cockpit parts first I think.

My only advice. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!  Especially on these older WnW releases, make 110% sure there is NO paint between joining surfaces, including where the fuselage frames butt against the fuselage sides. Failing to do that will assure you of fit problems, from the fuselage sides needing filler, and all the way through to the end, with everything being off a smidgen.

Thank you for the advice Ernie, I knew these earlier releases are tight on tolerance but didn't realize they were that tight!! Was going to use the word "bad" instead of tight but lets see. I did a little work on the engine and getting the upper wing halves together  and did notice the fit was super tight. Really enjoying so far, a superb production and hope I can do it justice.

A little more work on the cockpit area, first up the fuel tank was cleaned up and Archer resin rivets added as well as a few from the punch and die set. This was followed by cleaning up the pilots seat and then adding some lightening holes to the seat back and sides.

Also still working on wood effects on the inside fuselage parts.

Wanting to try and do a panel at a time to give a little tonal difference when looking inside the cockpit, hope its worth it!!

As always, thanks for looking in and comments/ criticism always welcome.

Some more progress on the cockpit, controls, fuel tank and pilots seat painted and assembled. Tank initially sprayed brass, followed by a coat of Tamiya RLM grey followed by a wash and dry brush. Detail picked out and then some of the grey removed with an old sanding stick to show a little wear and tear. Finally straps added and then the seat fitted followed by HGW belts.

Al so managed to complete all other cockpit parts ready for final assembly.

Pretty happy with the results, planning on leaving the bits and pieces of sprue til I have removed any paint residue from mating surfaces and ready to assemble. Away on holiday for 10 days so that's it progress wise until early August. Received my Uchi van der Rosten decals for the outer fuselage yesterday and the look fantastic. Just waiting for my Aviattic stuff now.

Thank's for checking by.
