mgbooyv8
Hi Guys, I have another unfinished racer from Williams Brothers. This time, it was the diminutive Keith Rider R4 or Schoenfeld Firecracker as it was known after Mr. Schoenfeld became the owner. The kit is typical Williams: some additional will be required to bring it up to standard. At least the colour scheme is simple: overall canary yellow, as Williams describes it in the manual. Here's the status at the start of this thread: ...
mgbooyv8
... I started enhancing the interior a little bit. This is how far I am now: Stay tuned! Cheers, Peter
LSP_Kevin
An interesting subject Peter! These old Williams kits seem to scrub up very nicely with a bit of work, as both yourself and Wiggy have proved with the Bulldog racer. Looking forward to seeing this one come together! Hubert Boillot
Great choice Peter ! This is one of the last Williams kits, and unfortunately, it is not as good as the first ones, when it comes to molding crispness and fit...but I'm sure you'll produce a great result ! Hubert. PS: do not forget to post photos with a reference size, just to show our warbirds' friends the real size of this one !
Wiggy
Hi Guys,At least the colour scheme is simple: overall canary yellow ... Now there's a good point! Good luck with this one Peter... I'll be watching. Switch on, Quarter Scale Wiggy
mgbooyv8
Hi Wiggy, Here as well? Great choice Peter ! This is one of the last Williams kits, and unfortunately, it is not as good as the first ones, when it comes to molding crispness and fit...but I'm sure you'll produce a great result ! Hubert. PS: do not forget to post photos with a reference size, just to show our warbirds' friends the real size of this one ! Yes, Hubert, It is indeed not one of their best: ragged rows of louvres, uneven rows of holes in the oil cooler, ill fitting parts, etc... It surely needs some TLC!! A good suggestion to show our fellow wardbird friends the real size of the Firecracker, so here it is, taped together and parked in all its glory under the wing of the Revell "Seafire" ( ): Who said size doesn't matter?? Marcin_Matejko
I'm new to the forum. Cool canary, I also now build this now. My model had an error in the geometry of the wing top view. Or wings were unbalanced chassis or enclosure leg. It is good to have extended forward fuselage by 1.5 mm between the cap and the hull."
bdthoresen
I have not been into racers much, but, I have began to really like them recently after kinda getting hooked on the Red Bull Air Racing circuit....As such, I have a new appreciation of them, and I must say that I am enjoying your thread very much. I like the look of this plane, it reminds me of some of the sleek Cauldron racers....Please keep up the good work and post more pics as you go! mgbooyv8
Hi Thor, Thanks! Hi Marcin, Thanks for the tip about the nose cowling. You really go to town on this one! What reference do you use? Cheers, Peter
Marcin_Matejko
Hi Peter Modeled on drawings and descriptions contained in the "Bent Trottles" No.21 January 2002. Article about Firecacker written by Anders Bruun (IPMS Airrace) I received the magazine after graduating from inside the hull, so my model has an error because it is not retracting landing gear crank mechanism. But they improved the shape of the front of hull. Marcin IPMS AirRace : http://www.ipmsairrace.org/

Marcin_Matejko
Hi Peter How's your work Firacracker? For me everything works suspended. Model temporarily hidden in the box, the lack of free time, unfortunately
mgbooyv8
Hi Marcin, I'm in the same situation. The next couple of weeks are very busy with work. Anyway, guys, the interior of the forecracker is partly finished: I've received the copy of Bent throttles # 21. It shows the framework of the model is not correct, but I leave it that way. The wooden coloured formers are an "educated guess" as the rear bulkhead and the floor are also wooden coloured I know they look a bit rough on the pictures but it's not that noticeable on the model. It's a small cockpit. Still to add the control cables, stick and that large undercarriage crank behind the stick. I guess the Firecracker had only lapbelts, so those will be added too. After that it is correction of several (but not all! ) issues with the exterior. I want to finish this one quickly! But that's for over a couple of weeks.
