Focke Factory

Hi Guys,

After a few months of retirement playing with the Silhouette cutter and some new airbrushes I decided to get some modelling done. Last month I built four 1/48 scale Hobby Boss Fw 190D kits to get my hand to eye coordination sorted and my airbrushing back into shape for building something in 1/32.  So here goes with three !/32 scale Hasegawa Fw 190D-9 kits and a fourth which is the Rutman/Grey Matters D-13 conversion.

First thing is the resin upper cowling is poorly shaped, so out with a scraper, sanding sticks and a few minutes of work.

More to follow

The D-9's all with eagle parts resin upper cowlings.  Some shrinkage had to be addressed!

Hi John,

I'm actually a lot further on than the photos suggest.  Four fuselages with wings on,  I've got a clutch of undercarriage legs painted, waiting to have Eagle Cals data plate decals applied, etc.

I hope to start painting next week.  Obviously the D-13 will be Yellow 10 and I intend to paint it with MMP paint.  I used it on the 1/48 Hobby Boss kit and its easily the best spraying acrylic available.

Hi Tim,

It's actually easier and faster!

Get the paint out and spray 4 items that are the same (like undercarriage legs) and its about the same time as painting just one.

Find a mistake on the first item, correct the rest there and then.

The only real pain so far has been knitting the HGW seat belts together. Worse than the first divorce, believe me!

First divorce? That implies that you may have been crazy enough to do it more than once!

Hi Tim,

It's not unusual, as Tom Jones used to sing.  I'm now single, seeing somebody (2 divorces and a few other Ladies along the way) and it's semi-serious but we don't live together, both too independent.  Plus my house is wall to wall boxes of plastic, no place for a Lady.

As I'm newly retired I've got time to do what I always wanted to do - make models!  No big ambitions, no desire to have lots of money.  But I've got a big pile of models to build, a drawer full of exceptionally good airbrushes, some great knives and other tools and I hope I've got the talent to do something decent with them.

A model show tomorrow at Abingdon, about 40 minutes away, so going to pick up paint, pigments, etc.

Regards,

Bruce Crosby

Great to see I'm not the only one who's tried building multiples of the same kit at the same time. I did 3 Tamiya Spitfires and the Matchbox one in one go. I didn't end up finishing them at the same time but it still worked like you said. Painting 4 at once isn't much more time to doing one.

Can't wait to see more.

Carl
