1/32 Tamiya F4U-1D!

Which is what I said in my post above.  The step was added, but it had a spring loaded door until after the war.

The fact that they made the same mistake on their 1/48 kit is (to my way of thinking) makes this all the more surprising an inclusion in the 1/32 kit.  Everything I've read about the 1/32 series is that they started completely from scratch on their research for them.

They give two flaps, one with it open and one with the door. This gives an option for wartime 1D and postwar 1D with the door removed.

They did start from scratch.

Interesting that Tamiya list the MSRP at $188.  It is $213 and $199 for the F4U-1A and Birdcage, respectively.  I would have thought that, pound for pound, the F4U-1D would have the most plastic in the box with the new weapons sprues.  Anyone have a tally yet on a pre-order from one of the major online shops?

With regards to decals for the new F4U-1D. I would be very pleased to see decals from VMF-512 of MAG 5.  This Marine Air Group was trained to knock out German V-1 launch sites from the escort carrier, USS Gilbert Islands. Although they never made it to the ETO, they epitomized the CAS role in the Pacific. Most of the aircraft had nose art. The F6F-5P Hellcats and TBM Avengers were gloss sea blue as well as the F4U-1D's. and FG's

OMG. I need to get that one. I would much rather do Grand Slam than the Mad Cossack. Out of curiosity, what was the Bu Number on that aircraft?

Thanks Jennings

 Jennings,

While I'm in no particular rush to buy a -1D (most likely a 2018 purchase), I would purchase that decal sheet as soon as I could.

I'm actually thinking about purchasing this kit so I can build Hash Wagon.

Jens, you got some really interesting subjects here.   Hope to see the full sheet and instructions soon.
