Hello, friends! This is the start(or restart) of a kit that was a great wish of mine for a long time. And just did not buy it for the prohibitive price, since at that time the kit was extinct, would only be found on Ebay.
Then i found an auction of one AMT to be sold as is, with no guarantee of having all the parts. I managed to buy for a bargain and waited anxiously for it to arrive.
When It arrived, I was startled by the box conditions, but I started the inventory. Has lacked two small parts of the nozzle, easily replaced by scratch, and all the front landing gear. The wheels and tires are in the box, but the entire landing gear was missing.
I thought back to scratch, but knowing that my skills did not reach that point, I gave up.
Then I found the flightpath detailing set, which among many improvements, had the front metal gear.
I bought the set and started the assembly.
Here's a new problem: The kit had huge raised rivets, something the actual plane does not have. So I started to cover everything with putty. After two months of sanding and reapplying putty, I got tired of the joke and stopped the kit.
Now already free of the stress of binomial putty / sandpaper, let's continue the plane.

Here, pictures of the kit:

Then a new problem: The kit had huge raised rivets, something the actual plane does not have. This associated with the terrible plastic surface of the old Airfix kits, turn the job in a challenge:

So I started to cover everything with putty. After two months of sanding and reapplying putty (Frequently when sanding lots of aplyed and dried putty, They simply peeled off the plastic), I got tired of the joke and stopped the kit.

Now already free of the stress of binomial putty / sandpaper, let's continue the plane.

Now, it's like this:

Actually looks pretty good ! Carry on my friend......Harv

Thanks, Harv! Be welcomed to the party!

I built this MPC kit a couple times!  Love it, but I was 13 or so, so I wasnt worried about much that as modelers we are worried about today.

Carry on sir!

These times, who we not worry about nothing, just to finish...Thanks!

Looks very interesting! Love to follow this build! :)

Have 2 Airfix kits laying around! :)

Be connected. I have a few more tricks to do in this one...

jeesh that surface is horrible - you have real stamina to take it in hand like you have - nice job

I gave up on their 1/24 Fw190 once as I just couldn't do what you have just done

Peter

If I did not have made it, I simply could not go away..

Wot Peter said.....just terrible for a jet aircraft, but ok for a battleship mebbe?

Max

Yes, my friend. This is Airfix...

Today I concluded the sanding Job and redid the lines. Let me made the photos to show to you.

Cheers, Paulo.

Wondering what a few light coats of Mr. Surfacer would do on that...

I use my own surfacer. I dilute Tamiya white putty with Laquer thinner, and use this as putty, aplying with a brush. Works fine to me. But even like this it was a lot of coats....

Great start Paulo  :speak_cool:

This is not an easy kit to prepare, but it will be worth the effort whwn you have finished it. Many people have these in their collections (I haven't yet, but I will get one one day), but few actually get around to making or finishing it, which is a pity as this is a unique aircraft that is rarely seen as a completed kit.

Yup, HORRENDOUS is the best way to describe the kit. Glad to see you are sticking with it and have made wonderful progress on the surface skins

Keep 'em coming

You are very brave! That's even worse than the Mustang I'm working on. Great work on reducing the rivets. There is a lot of preparation to get these old Airfix kits to the point where you can start building anything. They give you good basic shapes, but the details need lots of refining.

I feel your pain.  If the real plane had these divits probalbly would not take off due to the drag.

I did this with the white but it took forever for the stuff to dry.  I use Mr. Surfacer 500 then 1000.  I wipe early spray with alcohol then build up and wet sand.
