I Hearby Swear NOT to Buy that Kit!

I had it all filled-in on the Sprue Bros. order form: The HK Models B-17E/F. The one where you can build the Memphis Belle.

Almost $750 and Eduard hasn't released the four resin engines for it they did for the G version. But price was not a consideration. As my youngest tells me every time I complain about the cost of something.

"Shut up, Dad, you drive a Porsche."

But last night I woke up in the middle of my not-so-ugly-sleep to pee (old guys like me have to pee at least once in the middle of the night), and it hit me.

You have over a 100 kits in your stash. You have 2 FW-190s (A & D), a JU-88, an HE-111, another Corsair, a P-51, an F-15, 2 Double Uglies (one with Gary's crazy-assed wing surgery to make a proper N), EVERY SINGLE Pz. III variant, all the T-34s, one Abrams and another on the way, at least two Tiger-Is and one Tiger-II. Plus 2 Fokker D-7s and the "Early Bird Special" on order. Plus two 1/72nd U-boats and a Gato-class US Fleet submarine. Not to mention all the figures....

:m0152: :m0152: :m0152: :m0152: :m0152:

"Madness. You can't go down that route, Bill," I said almost out loud (but not out loud or I'd wake She Who Must Not Be Disturbed).

So, to prevent backsliding, I'm taking a public oath NOT to buy that kit, and have deleted it from my SB cart.

Yes, I could add it again another time. But for now, sanity has prevailed. :( :( :(

Bill, I just wanted to lend a hand to a fellow LSPer in need. If you can't overcome the urge to purchase the fore mentioned B-17 kit, I would be willing to put myself out there to relieve you the agony of building it.

The $750 would stop me quite easily, not to mention the space required to build it and a cabinet big enough to display it.

So I'm sure you'll stick to your guns and not buy it. As the old proverb goes, "man driving Porsche has iron willpower".

Can you put a picture up when the box arrives?

There's basically no difference in E/F/G engines.

Jennings, I hate you now. Stop tempting me. :fight:

Common Bill, You drive a Porsche :)

It's not the money, Dude. It's knowing when I die my family will toss out or sell off at a deep discount my stash kits. A friend suggested going through and pricing-out each one, and I thought, "Georg, if I do that I might as well use the time to BUILD them."

That's a real friend making such a sacrifice. Thank you. :mental:

tis why I set  cost limit on the kit, for me my cut off is $100....unless Im given funds explicitly for a kit.

For example my bday present from my father:

It's not the money. I'm glad to save $700+ (more now that Jennings tells me the G engines will fit in the E/F). It's just knowing that I will have to leave worthy candidates for building unbuilt. I have Galland's ME-262. And several railroad cars to go with a German Baureihe 52. And an IJA tank "wrecked" on Saipan with a ****-ton of Marines in resin. Or another USMC "tuna boat," It's "Sophie's Choice" if I go for that big Super Fort.

Grrrr. :piliot:

$750? Is that the leatherbound edition with instructions hand drawn and illuminated with gold leaf?!

I hope this sells for HKM. I want it to help pay for the FG.1 Phantom 2 tooling. So go on Bill, give in to temptation!

Tony

Sorry, Tony, the kit is $275 but it's all the Eduard PE and resin engines to make it "perfect." In for a penny, in for 8 C-notes. But it's not the money, it's that, to quote Nixon, "it would be wrong." Hopefully I'm more honest than he was, haha.

Haha, I was hoping for support from my fellow LSPers and you are ALL ENABLERS!!! :fight: :party0023:

This life is short.

We do NOT have a whole lot of time on this planet, and we do NOT get a second go-round.

If buying $750 worth of modeling stuff makes you happy, Id DO IT!  We seem to have so very few passions these days, that I am for one that if its not hurting you or others, and you have the cash to do it...........easy peasy..........DO IT!

Like Ron always said............

Well, I drive a Porsche too ( a 996 Targa :frantic: ), and technically have not sold my other Porsche ( a Boxster). But I can only drive one at a time ;).

... And I will not buy a B-17 kit (but will buy the spare parts from Pete when my personal life gets clearer, to build a 307 :) ), so you're not alone, Bill.

... This said, I have a stash that will take me to my 200th birthday, and just recently opened the vault to buy a 1/200 Mikasa, and the Mk 1 detail set for this battlewagon, which costs almost as much as a HK B-17 ...

So, my advice to you is: be reasonable, Bill. Wait until next month to break your oath
