Hello.

Few weeks ago I started new project, a Bf 109 F47Trop. I decided to apply rivet details this time. Some 25 years ago I was done a Bf 109 E4 trop without putty and with handbrush painting. It was Werner Schroer's markings I remember black eight with red trims... This time Marseille's turn.

I hope it will worth so much effort for the riveting. I used Kagero's Top drawings for riveting plans. First marked rivet places on the parts with riveting roller, afterwards enlarged em one by one with a sharp edged hand punch from tritool. When marking places with roller I discovered that I was working more easy when not using a guide for the roller. When I tried to guide roller with a ruler or Dymo band all time encountered problems and roller left wrong trails over the model. I tried only drawing a line and use the riveting roller freehand on the line. Somehow this came to me much more easier and all time have nice results. Enlarging marks with the hand punch requires lot of attention and care due all time must apply same amount of power to the punch for having equal rivet details. Also its little dangerous when punch tool comes relatively thinner parts of the main plastic body, specially on wings. I did not noticed such places and caused some small damages on the model and on some left hand fingers.  After enlargement, I sanded whole surface with number 600 wet sandpaper. Only one thing I did not like with the model up to now that there were huge long sink marks along the both wing top. This had to be filled and sanded before riveting. This was the only place I had to alter riveting line a mm to upper side due weak putty line for the riveting tool and punch but not much problem..

Cheers, nice weekends.

I think you'll find that the time you have taken to apply rivets will be worth the effort!  I also use the rivet roller (Radu's Rivet-R Mini) without using a guide and find that it tends to roll in a straight line if guided carefully.  Can't wait to see more!
