Revell F4U-1A Corsair Boyington

With the kind permission of the group build, I would like to join with the above. I'll dig it out of the garage tomorrow but it will include a Teknic's R-2800, aftermarket cockpit (I think I have Verlinden, Black Box and another one in my parts bin), Lonestar Flaps, wheel wells, and wheels, and finally Cutting Edge decals for unit 915, the aircraft he was shot down in. I'll get pictures of everything tomorrow except the decals which are behind two tons of stuff in the garage. This is like the dream kit I have been saving and collecting for. What an excuse to finally start. It will take all of my modeling skill to do it justice.

Okay, here are the pics of my components for the build (I forgot I have a Squadron vacuform canopy for it as well). I have three Corsairs, one in the original '71? boxing, this one in the RoG boxing and see below for my poor third one. I need another to do a F4U, F4U-1 and this will be the F4U-1A (need a birdcage in there too but it might just be the F4U).

Here is a closeup of the three Lonestar sets I bought - The wheel wells and doors, wheels, and flaps.

Not shown, diet Coke can for new cowl flaps (and maybe open engine panel).

Here is a pic of my third Revell Corsair (technically 1st).

It was at this point, Eduard interior with putty headrest, no work on the engine but the beginning of a paint job I was proud of, and then it met the IJC - Imperial Japanese Cats. I have the pieces. Might do a wreck diorama with Japanese running past it (horrors how can I even think to do that with my all time favorite a/c?)

I love this kit and am looking forward to seeing your work on it. I have that boxing with the True details cockpit and some other goodies waiting patiently for me on the shelf. Far away from marauding Imperial Japanese Cats!!!

Well I finally recovered from moving last October. The model bench is complete enough to work properly, even if I am still missing stuff like my pipe cleaners and my Gator glue. So I am back at the Corsair. I am going to try to finish it for the group build but if I don't make it, there is a contest coming up in Madison so I will transfer to the clear the bench build and keep going. So here is the Black Box cockpit coming along. The wash in the seat is still drying and I have to hit everything with a flat overcoat and I see that damn headrest needs more paint. I must be touching it accidentally.

I've also added to the build the Aires gunbay (I'll use one side on this build and the other side on my 1D) and the Eduard set, mostly for the exterior mods but also for the instrument panel.

Looks like its going to be a lot of fun! The Aero Detail book and the Detail and Scale are great references to have when doing bent wing birds, looks like you have the project well in hand, cant wait to see more.
