Amodel 1/72nd JRM-3 Martin Mars

Ordered this from Hobbyterra last week, and I'm grinning ear-to-ear at the moment. My Combat Models vacform has now officially been boxed and stored away, I may get it back out, but I may just cut it up and reuse the plastic. It's no where near the quality of this, and if I had the two built up, I'd want them looking the same... and that's going to be tough.

So here it is, in all it's fibreglass glory. Nice boxart too.... I will post more shots of the sprues as the build progresses.

Guest Clunkmeister

I've seen them in operation plenty of times through the years.   There's no words on earth to describe the grace of these old boats. True aeronautical history.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one come together

It's slow with the run up to Telford, but it will be at Telford loosly put together and on show on my Water Bombers SIG table... so please come and look...

Then once the shows done, it's head down time... lots to be getting on with ;)

We do Brian, I absolutely love them. I have a 1/33rd scale Card Model that I want to do what Peter Castle did with the 1/24th Tigercat and make the main card parts with plastic and then cover it how Tom Probert does his planking. It's not small though!

Seeing as it's sort of related, bit more progress on my CL-215.... All packed away now till after the Telford weekend... then it's Mars time.

Indeed it is.    Ive always loved the CL-125, and really like the  415 with the turbo-props and wing tip stabilizers.

  • 5 months later...

Thanks guys for the comments! Work has been slow building, my business has picked up ten-fold so my own time has been filled up with being a new dad or sleep!

But with Telford on my mind, it's time to get stuff done for my Water Bomber SIG.

The Mars is on hold, it needs more time than I can commit to it... so I would rather spend that time on three to get these done.

Heller DC-6 to be done with the rare Leading Edge Conair sheet.

Hasegawa P-3 to be finished as a Aero Union P-3 but not in the bright red/white scheme.

and the CL-215 as seen above, cowlings being modified, scribed etc... should be due for markings soon.

Radleigh, I am working on the SAME P3 , just managed to get the tank mounted yesterday ( Lone Star Models ) and what site are you on for the Waterbombers SIG ? I'm into Fire Bombers too, converting my P3 to the same as yours, I have done a 1/72 Conair Firecat conversion ( S2f Tracker) and am going to do  P2 Neptune, the Revell C54, C130 Coulson ( have the decals) and am working on a 1/48 Bell UH! conversion to a 205A1 helicopter, here are a few sites that may interest you if you don't already have them

http://airtankersinscale.proboards.com   a forum site I regularly try to get involved with, it isn't as active as this site, but it could be really good

http://wildfiretoday.com        a Wild fire news site, VERY interesting stuff here, the odd video etc,

https://www.oddbobmodels.com/our-team.php     my buddy Rob's site for add ons, he is adding stuff all the time, I know there is a DC10 tank coming, possibly a TBM Conversion, and even a water tank for the Skycrane  he is a real good guy, lives in Calgary, and is honest so if you want conversion stuff order with confidence, and his stuff is really good, I have the C 130 conversion and the P2 Neptune conversion

https://www.redroomodels.com/red-roo-resin-172/douglas-dc-4gdc-6c-firebomber-conversion          I have this conversion I bought from Gary, again, VERY good and comes with Buffalo decals of  " Alpha Papa "  very well done

http://www.syhartdecal.fr/references_2.php?lang=ENG&ref=Syhart%20913&page=description        and I'm sure you well know about these guys in France, this is the set I did for the Firecat, although I didn't do the turbo conversion I like the old radials, they sound so cool....

https://www.v1decals.com/airline/coulson                  and if you need Coulson C 130 decals, Ben from Victoria B.C. is your man, again a real nice decal set and a real good guy to deal with.....

I hope there is some stuff you can use and are interested in here, I always like to pass on some sites that maybe the guys haven't seen, some of this stuff, as you well know is hours of research, and it is nice to know of someone other than me that is interested in fire bombers........ let em know where I can see the SIG....

cheers

Jeff

Hi Jeff, thanks for the reply and many links! Very helpful... never heard of 'Odd Bob' before, so i'm going to have to order one each of the AT 802's! I was going to scratch build my own, so this will be a lot quicker.

I have a lot more fire bombers on the go, a Guardian, a few helicopters etc... but just consentrating on the three posted for now... great aircraft and colour schemes.

This is my website and I run the IPMS UK 'Special Interest Group'. Sadly, it's slow, not as much interest here in the UK, but I'm building it up bit by bit. scalewaterbombers.wordpress.com
