Its been snowing on and off for a week now in North Scotland, not lying on the ground long though, its kinda nice to see actually, past few years up here there has been practically nothing, about 7 or 8 years ago we had a really snowy cold winter and very low temperatures, snow on the ground for about 6 weeks and for being so close to the coast (Moray Firth) that was a very unusual cold snowy winter year ... hate this time of year though, means high heating bills and that cuts into my budget for other hobby's like Scale Modelling, LOL.

Health wise, past few winters have been taking a free flu/cold jab at local medical practice because before I started dong this a cold or mild flu would hit me for six in these cold months, the jab seems to work or perhaps its just a placebo, but seem to get through each winter virus free now .. I ain't so young anymore, LOL

Stay safe out there this winter folks.

expecting around 8 cms in the midlands of the UK. That ought to grind the country to a halt for absolutely no reason!!!

So true, Pharty and Bomber, in UK we tend to grind to a halt at first hint of a snow flake falling out of the sky ... obviously i'm exaggerating here, but when I see how other country's cope with far worse winters year after year, each year we get snow the grind to a halt with nearly every thing is shocking to see, really is ... its embarrassing actually :)

3 years ago, we had 3 separate snow storms that dumped more than 10" apiece on us.   It was a hell of a time.   Of course now that Im fully prepared to move around in it, we have had exactly 0" of snow this year.

Matt

It's either white fluffy stuff or as heavy as cement. Add some nasty winds and the fun is just starting.

Some how Matt, after following the horrendous forest fires in your neck of the woods, snow doesn't seem that bad.

Just be safe and how are you making out.

Jennings ... good point but don't the snakes offer a bit of a challenge? When I was in Arizona a few years ago, I saw a few signs that said: stay on the pay - snakes. I never stopped looking down!

Peter

Fires are still south of me at this point. Wildfires and California go together like, well, snow and you guys.  Hopefully everyone in the fire area is staying safe through them

We got 7 inches overnight here in the Atlanta area. Powerlines down all over my neighborhood. I'm a Florida native but spent 10 years in NYC, so I can deal with it. It's just a hurricane made of ice and snow rather than wind and rain.

Grew up in WNY, lived for many years in metro DC, now living in SE Florida.

I've seen extreme snow, surprised when it snows, and no snow ever.

I personally like the latter.  I think of dealing with the cold and snow now and it just scares the crap out of me.

I hate being cold and heat/humidity don't bother me.

It varies for everyone.  The trick is to try and live where you are at peace with the weather.

Life is too short to spend 6 months a year depressed and bitching about gray/cold/snowy weather!

I'd like to gripe about this terrible weather, if I may.

I curse Zeus for making today 24C-76F!!! You wouldn't believe it, there's a clear sky, the roads are quiet, everyone is either golfing, sailing, or at the beach!!!

Australia, whaddayagonnado?

Don't you guys get more modelling done when it snow's? No more Honey Do's if you can't go outside! I remember my time in Ukraine and Russia, -27C and we had to work in it. What use to take you 15 minutes would take an hour or more.

Hey Peter,

Do you remember the the snowstorm we had middle/late 60's on the Island, 3-4 feet if I remember right. It was fun as a kid but everything was damn near shut down!

I love the snow but here where I am now in southeast Missouri we get snow but more likely it's frozen rain and ice buildup.  :( We had an ice storm here about 8 years ago, trees down and the power   lines. Cooked on the barbecue for a week.....house got to 40 degrees we were packing to find a motel when he power came back on :)

 Dan
