Uncarina
For a change I built Meng's D9R with slat armor. A thoroughly enjoyable sidetrack (pun intended) from my usual builds. The fit and engineering are amazing, with workable tracks. The only thing to look out for (with both of Meng's releases of this subject) are that the track sag is a bit excessive. I sectioned the drivetrain and increased the separation of idlers from each other by inserting a tube (you can see it as the bare metal portion of the drivetrain). Paint was a Tamiya custom blend, weathering with a silver pencil, Flory washes, and pastels. 1to1scale
Nice build, but I have a question. I am not real versed on armor, but what is the purpose of the slats? What do they do?
Uncarina
Nice work Tom Barry Barry, Thanks! I'm getting warmed up for the big Abrams build! BTW, have you seen the Challenger 2 in the urban camo pattern? I'm pondering that for my big Challenger. Hope you are doing well. Tom

I post on RCTW that you were going to resume your Abrams build. Yes I have seen the Challenger II in the urban scheme, would look awesome IMO. I am looking forward to see your build. It was a bit of a shame to hide all of the kits detail behind those slats! Cheers, Tom

GMK
Thanks. They are used as a counter to predetonate incoming RPG rounds. Cheers, Tom Nice work! Saw these in action in Gaza in 2014. They Egyptian Army also uses them, albeit without the slat armour (& a more desert yellow colour). Slight correction, the bars/slats are spaced to short circuit the RPG warhead by crushing the concentric cones together, preventing warhead detonation.
